I was watching Jim Bob practicing to be a Preacher, and all the pit falls expressed by family members and others to him along the way.
Did you ever want to be someone, and then decide that vocation wasn't for you and why? and what changed your mind?

I wanted to be a graphic artist. Went to the Art Institute of Atlanta. My roommates & I had our apartment broken into twice & we were robbed of anything of value. Then another night there was a shooting on the sidewalk outside our front door. I realized quick that I would have to live in a big city to earn a living doing this, so I dropped out. I wanted the safety & quiet of the country life that I came from. ;D Then I wanted to become a pathologist (medical examiner), the one who does the autopsy. Then I found out that first you have to become a doctor then there is additional medical schooling & I would have been 30 before I even finished all of that schooling. I didn't want to wait that long. Then I wanted to become a funeral director. I got into that pretty hot & heavy. But the mass part of the "public" think there is something either wrong or weird with you. No one wants to invite you to anything or have any association with you except at the funeral home & then they are there because there has been a death. You can forget about anyone wanting to shake your hand or hug you outside of the funeral home.

foreverwalton we have to be sisters seperated at birth! I wanted to be a pathologist and study at The Body Farm in Knoxville, TN. I've read every book by Patricia Cornwell who is a former coroner for Richmond, VA. She studied and worked at The Body Farm with founder Dr. Jefferson Bass. I got to attend one of his lectures and was in awe! I have a friend who's family owns the oldest funeral home in our county. She has now taken control and encourages me to start classes and work with her. If I was healthier and younger I would do it. Like alot of us life happened and I didn't have the opportunity to follow through. I've always enjoyed photography and bought a good camera, now I have to learn how to use it!

Yes, marylou01 I marvel at how much we seem to have in common! When my husband & I went to Texas back in 1999, we made a special trip to Houston just so I could go to the worldest largest funeral museum. ;D It was very fascinating. That was great that you got to attend one of Dr. Bass' lectures. I also wanted to become a professional photographer. I take so many pictures that my camera has almost become a part of my body. My kids know by now that I constantly document everything in their lives with my camera. For a while now they will say, "Momma get your camera!" My brother claims that he is going to donate his body to the Body Farm in Knoxville, Tn.

Brill all of you, as long as you are happy with what you are doing now, that is the main thing.
