I did. When I was a baby we lived with my fathers parents........just like the Waltons Later my dad bought the house next door to them and when my Grand-Mother died my Grand-Father came to live with us. When I got married and had a baby I lived back with my parents and Grand-Father whilst my husband was working abroad for 6 months.....so there were 4 generations living in the same house Now I only live a few doors from my own Grand-Children so they spend a lot of time with me

Grandma and Grandpa Walton were such an important part of the family. Never any talk of putting them in the "old folks home" even when one or the other of them became sick. Wonder how many of us here lived in a family with 3 or more generations under one roof. Kind of unusual in this day and age.

For many people nowadays, it's the job market that has changed things dramatically, along with air travel..... At one time, folks stayed pretty close to where they grew up, stayed in the same job for decades, etc., making it more possible to keep grandparents closeby and truly part of their lives.....
Now, we move all over the place for new jobs, better opportunities, not satisfied to stay in the "same old rut." Competition has moved to the "Utmost Importance" column..... We don't worry about seeing the family, because they're an easy flight away or easily skyped..... Although we may want to move the grandfolks along with us, they probably want to stay right where they are.....
For many of us, however, we would have preferred the old ways.....

Well said Jeri. Actually, did John and Olivia even own the house, or did it belong to Grandma and Grandpa? I guess they couldn't have been thrown out of their own house - not that anyone wated to.

Don't know if we ever really figured out when the house was built. ... seems to me that in some episodes, we are told that Grandpa built it, and in others John mentions building it..... I think.....
Anyone?

I was wondering the same thing - who actually built the house - John or Grandpa? Maybe Grandpa started it...a smaller version...and John added on to it as the family grew?

I especially think that Grandpa and Grandma's room was probably a later edition to the house.
