Hello everybody.... Apologize if this has been asked before (I searched and didn't find anything). Has the Walton house exterior been used in other tv shows/movies? I know it was used in the Gilmore Girls (I was so excited when I saw it!). Any others? Thanks Lisa

It was the house used in Mayberry RFD (before The Waltons). I have a picture of it somewhere here on the forum, because we've had this conversation before. I think it was also used in a movie back in the '60s , but I can't remember what it was. Some have pointed out that scenes of the Walton house appeared on Dukes of Hazzard. Brenda

"Probably the last screen appearance of the original house was in the Stephen King movie Sleepwalkers, filmed in the summer of 1991. Production notes for the film tell us: "In contrast to the pristine town square and street where Tanya lives, the production chose the studio's Walton house, used in the popular television series, as the site for the foreboding Brady house. The rustic, unkempt look of the house in a town of unequaled beauty was symbolic of the Sleepwalkers themselves, outsiders who live on the fringes of society to survive." By this time the house was different yet again. The upstairs and roof seem to have been remodeled once more, and a two-storey extension has been added to the right-hand side of the house. The front door has been moved to the right and the porch and windows have all been changed. The whole house is now painted a dull blue. At this point there must have been little of the original surviving and, to be honest, there's almost no evidence visually that the structure is the same one we saw on screen in the seventies!" So we know the house has turned up elsewhere but what about props? Has anyone seen any Walton props such as the radio, furniture, cars etc... turn up in another show or movie?

Speaking of the house. I have said over and over again that if I ever built my own home it would be the exact same plan as The Waltons house except I would put another bathroom in Grandma and Grandpa's bedroom. I just love those push up windows.

I just love those push up windows. Those push-up windows (we called them "sash windows" in Britain - don't know if it is the same over there) are a real pain. Nowadays you can get ones in lightweight plastic/metal frames which just stay put with friction. But, in the old days, the weight of the window was balanced on cords, running over pullies, with lead weights on the end - these weights were hidden behind panels at the sides of the windows. Of course what happened in time is that damp/cold got to the cords and they would rot and the lead weights would fall to the bottom of their "compartments". With that old system, you had to replace the sash cords every couple of seasons because of this (and there were 4 for each window). It was a pain. They went out of fashion in the UK because of all this hassle. They may have persisted in the US as houses (rural ones at least) seem rather more high maintenance over there, and yearly work on the outside seems accepted.

Thanks Lisa The house on "Gilmore Girls" was the MkII house, as used in the 1990s reunion movies, not the original. The original was burned down a couple of years before, by a fire-fighter whose night-time hobby was... arson (I kid you not). The MkII one was on a completely different lot.

I just love those push up windows. Just keep in mind that, if you want the same interior floor plan, the exterior will be much different !! I have always called them double-hung windows and have never had anything else.... in fact, seldom see any other type except in quite new homes...... Have you experienced something different ??

In the movie It Happened One Christmas the remake of It's a wonderful life when Mary played by Marlo Thomas goes looking for George who is at the garage it looks like John Boys car he is working on. I also watched the movie Bonnie & Clyde the other day and though I saw Johns truck also it looked like the blue car that John Boy was working for in The Car was in the movie too, the movie was Warner Brothers so it could have been.
