in the Homecoming and he also passed away in 1978 the same year as Will Geer. Interesting. I always wondered what the Waltons would have been like if Will Geer had not of died. Grandpa is my favorite Walton!

Grandma was still Grandma though wasn't she? Wonder if Edgar Bergen, David Huddleston (Sheriff Bridges), the guy who played Ike & the two ladies who played the Baldwin sisters were offered the parts in the series??
Personally I like Will Geer, Joe Conley, Helen Kleeb & Mary Jackson much better & I also like David better as A.J. Covington.
They all did a fine job in The Homecoming though.

I decided to look up some of The Homecoming cast and read that in real life the actresses who played the Baldwin sisters passed away in New York City two days apart in 1998.

I agree with you foreverwalton. I enjoyed the Homecoming cast but I loved Will Geer, he was my fave! I liked the series cast much better.

On IMDB.com they have Edgar Bergen listed as Ebenezer Walton. Typo I guess? Did they call him Ebenezer or Zebulon (Zeb)?

I enjoyed William Windom as Charlie Snead. Thought he was wonderful! Also liked him on Murder She Wrote.

I liked Joe Conley as Ike, but that is because I am used to him in that role. I watched the Waltons for years before ever seeing the Homecoming, so I didn't care for Woodrow Parfrey. I am sure if he had stayed with the role, then I could have appreciated him more. Sort of how I feel with Robert Wightman...no one else could be John Boy after Richard Thomas, no matter how good they were. I feel that Robert did do the best he could. It was easier for the other actors to take over the original roles (Grandpa, Baldwins, Ike, etc.) because there was only 1 airing of the movie and they took over the roles before people attached to the characters.

Those actresses that portrayed the Baldwins were lovely. I wonder why they did not pursue the roles for the tv? Josephine Hutchinson played on LHOTP for an episode but after 1974 did nothing. Maybe she did not want the hassle of a regular job? Dorothy Stickney only did one more job. Maybe they both wanted to retire and did not want to work anymore? Mary Jackson and Helen Kleeb were a few years younger and maybe that is why they took over the roles. Loved them too!
