I'll never forget the first time I saw GWTW..... there was a revival going on in 1961 (25th anniversary of the book) at movie theatres. My uncle who was a math prof at Alfred Univ had also started up their campus movie theatre in the early 1940's..... it was in the oldest building on campus because it was largely a lecture hall, with a balcony, and perfectly suited for a projection booth......
Anyway, the only seats available to movie-goers were old, straight-backed wooden chairs. Many folks brought pillows to sit on.... But, we were just visitors and that idea hadn't been suggested to us. Can you imagine sitting on a hard wooden chair for FOUR HOURS or more ??!! It was not fun.
So glad it eventually started being aired on tv. Nothing beats a sofa or recliner !!

The first time GWTW was aired on TV in Canada was the mid 1970s, I saw it then.
