I was thinking, do they ever mention the events of The Foundling again? There are loads of times when they talk about The Homecoming, which came right before, and loads of times when they talk about The Carnival, which came right after, but I don't seem to remember anything from The Foundling being mentioned again! Which is strange, seeing as it is the first ever episode of The Waltons! All I can remember is a brief clip of Elizabeth from it in the opening of a reunion, and a short clip of John-Boy and Marcia in A Decade of The Waltons, which is shown after Mary Ellen says "Remember that year John-Boy was in love with Marcia Woolery?" or something like that. It just seems strange to me that it would be mostly forgotten! Or am I overlooking anything?

I do not think they talked about The Foundling again. They had mentioned that Marcia Woolery makes good gingerbread and also mentioned that Elizabeth was found under one of her mothers smiles but other scenes are no longer discussed.

Which does seem quite odd I think! Especially since all of them can now speak some form of sign language, you'd think it would have come up at some point.

They never used any from of sign language in "The Foundling", it was all fingerspelling. I found that hard to believe, because finderspelling is a lot harder do, both spelling and seeing, than it would be to use or see an actual ASL sign. However this is one of my favorite episodes, as I'm fluent in ASL. My second language

I was born deaf but couldn't learn how to talk till I was almost 7 years old but never learn sign language until I met my college friend who is deaf and can't speak so he taught me how to do it until I met my husband who also born deaf which he does ASL. I had to go through speech therapy from 7 years old all the way to my sophomore year in high school. I went to public school all the way to college. No special education class. They will be surprise when they see me at the reunion.

I think it would take years to teach some who was deaf how to finger spell. The girls wouldn't be able to do it in a few days.

I can't say that I ever heard the Foundling mentioned in any other episode. I guess I never thought of it before but I just can't think of a time..... ZnE

I love the scene in the Foundling where John Boy up in his room gets the the little girl to communicate. And then she's the one who finds Elizabeth in the chest. I haven't paid attention every time a previous episode is mentioned. Do you mention every memory from earlier in your life. No. But you remember some of them. So we fondly remember the Foundling as the first episode even if we never saw it mentioned again
