I receive the free CBS magazine "WATCH!" I just got my new copy in the mail this week. It's the October 2012 issue. There is an article in there called,"My Favorite Year CBS introduced hit after amazing hit in 1972."
During the course of one week, 40 Septembers ago, CBS did the debut of four landmark series: Maude, The Bob Newhart Show, M*A*S*H and The Waltons. What united these programs was the desire to deal with real issues on television.
The Waltons based on the book Spencer's Mountain by Earl Hamner Jr., handled poverty in a gentle but forthright way.
M*A*S*H was a hit for 11 seasons. The Waltons remained popular for nine. The Bob Newhart Show & Maude each lasted six.
The article just has a picture of the M*A*S*H cast & one of Bea Arthur as Maude. Of course, I cannot type out the whole article as it doesn't belong to me. But was glad to see something about The Waltons in a new magazine.
They made no mention of either of the Waltons reunions that will be taking place in California in a few days.
