The baby is the daughter of the woman Granny Ketchum is taking care of. The woman's part is played by Sissy Spacek. Johnboy and the woman whose part was played by Sissy were once friends.

Child? It was an infant.... credits are seldom given in such circumstances .... You can be sure that, if that infant had done any acting in the future, it's appearance on The Waltons would be noted on IMDB !!!

I checked the IMDB for the list of characters in that episode, but no name is given for the baby. It isn't a stupid question, though. I've often wondered where TV shows get the babies for such episodes, Who lets their newborn or nearly newborn baby appear in a TVshow? A lot of people I guess. My granddaughter was "Baby Jesus" in a church performance last December. She was 2 months old at the time.
Occasionally babies in TV shows do go on to become actors as they get older...Mary Kate and Ashley Olson for example.

I dont know how babies are picked for episodes. Just healthy and good looking ones and usuallt twins like the Olsens who happened to come from a rich family and become actresses. For the most part they're unknown except to the families and shows that put them there. wmsportwriter. And no question is stupid just curiosity. Its only a stupid question if you know the answer in the first place lol

I wonder if that baby was a child of one of the crew members? I know in Anne of Green Gables, the little girl who played Diana's little sister, Minnie May, and the baby that played Diana's baby son, was the director's niece and nephew. Not a stupid question...but, now you got me wondering about that little baby
