Just discovered that one of my PBS stations is beginning the All Creatures Great and Small series tonight. Oh, happy day !!
Not sure how various pbs stations work, but it seems that many of them carry the same stuff...... so, if you're interested, take a look at your lineup.....
BLISS !!

we saw it (the TV show) first time around and read the books (long gone) but the other day found a complete set in a box at a shop, so home they came. we have visted the locations for the show and for anyone not able to get the surounding countryside is wonderful

I was very happy that the first show last night was the actual first episode, with the original wife Helen ('tho she didn't yet have much of a part and they don't even know each other yet..... )
And, within 6 minutes I was laughing hysterically, mainly at James's first encounter with Biggens !!! One of the funniest bits of dialogue ever written !!!
Just loved every moment -- each owner of the animals they treated, the slipping car seat, Sigfried's odd brand of welcome ...... had completely forgotten about Mrs. Hall's early creepy demeanor..... oh, and the tiny little girl with the tortoise.
It just doesn't get any better than this !!!

It's one of my favorite series. Have the entire boxed dvd set. Wonderful stories and it always makes me laugh.

Ezra Biggins and Mrs. Pumphrey were total entertainment for me. :-) Classic television, indeed.

Ezra Biggins and Mrs. Pumphrey were total entertainment for me. :-) Classic television, indeed. mercantile Ooh, that poor over-fed peke with his unfortunate "problem" -- animal cruelty! And Mrs. Pumphrey's put-upon houseman !!! Mercantile, since you know the stories so well, I wonder how you felt about the later episodes, after the Herriots had their children.... One of my favorites is when Jimmy has his piano recital. I can read it or view it over and over again and laugh oloud every time !!

Well, JeriJet.. The best episodes for me were between Series One to the Christmas Special of 1985. After the lay off during the early eighties I did my best to see every episode, but by '85 I was moving to college and missing more TV than I was watching. Thankfully I was able to view the later series' from a friend's collection during the early 90's.
I shared Tristan's penchant for re-sitting exams; but finally obtained my pass to University. My favourite episodes would include:
Series One ~ All Series Two ~ All Series Three ~ All Series Four ~ E5 Hail Caesar!, E6 Only One Woof; magical episode.. Series Five ~ E1 Against The Odds, E2 Place Of Honour, E4 The Playing Field, E6 A New Chapter, E8 The Salt Of The Earth, E9 Cheques And Balances Series Six ~ E5 Blood And Water, E6 Where Sheep May Safely Graze, E9 Big Fish, Little Fish Series Seven ~ E10 Old Dogs, New Tricks
The 1990 Christmas Special has remained elusive for me; I know I can probably find it with the correct inclination, but not completing something can sometimes be as rewarding.. there's something left to the imagination, as the story remains unfinished.
Thanks for your comments. :-)
