Last month, my wife and I took the Warner Bros Studio tour. We were the oldest among a group of 12 taking the tour. As the tour was ending, I expressed disappointment that "The Waltons" had not been mentioned. The tour guide was very gracious however and did explain that it was filmed on the "backlot" but over the years most of the set was gone. No one else on that tour (average age about 30) had heard of the Waltons. That is why they do not mention it on the tour unless asked.

That's sad. I know there's a new generation of Walton fans. I've read many post on INSP fb page from people who didn't watch the original series but are enjoying it on INSP, Hallmark & GMC. It's my dream to do the California "tour" scene!

I'll be doing the Walton house Set tour in September and can't wait! Gonna be sooooo much fun! I guess they let you in some of the prop buildings too where they have some of the costumes and props on display like an outfit that Richard wore and Earl's old typewriter! ;D RYAN-J

Like the barn and stuff?

They drive you through the "backlot" where the Walton's was filmed. I did not see any of the "Walton buildings", house, barn, etc. The roads through the backlot had some "Walton familiarity" to them but that is about all. I was really disappointed because I thought they would point out where "this" or "that" was. But they didn't. In fact, on the tour we were on, very little was mentioned about the older shows and movies. Too much "Batman", "Friends", stuff. After I brought the Waltons up at the end of the tour, the guide drove us past what she said was the church on the Waltons. They said it served also as the school house. One side was the school, the othr side was the church. However, it did not look like it to me. It was not located on the backlot either which makes me suspicious. I don't want to sound like I'm knocking the tour because for what it was, it was good. Just didn't include what we were interested in.

The orignal house burned down, and they rebuilt it in the early 90's for the TV movies. Later they moved it to the Warner Bros ranch which isn't part of the tour, but is close by. That's where the Baldwin house is too.

That's where the Baldwin house is too. AFAIK, in addition to the above, Ike's store is "long gone", Boatwright is still there, Drucilla's Pond is still there (original bridge gone). The church and school - there seems to be some confusion about and what is pointed out to people doesn't seem to be the right buildings! I wonder if that hideously fake-looking fireplace/chimney from the original Walton house is still up on the hills somewhere? LOL.
