Remewmber Chuck, Curt's childhood friend? Erin was reluctant to date him because she feared the same thing might happen to him as happened to GW. But this gave Mary Ellen a chance to at least feel better about life once again....

So, I took special note of the funeral -- and it appeared to me that in this episode, a 48-star flag is used. Maybe it was brought to the production crew's attention after the earlier gaffe......

I checked it out and was surprised I was wrong about the flag it's not a 50 star flag or 48 star it looks to be a 36 star flag used from 1865 to 1867 from the civil war era. The 48 star flag should have 6 rows of stars with the stars even top to bottom and across and 50 star should have 9 rows of stars the stars alternating each row. It's hard to see in the the first casualty but in the home front you can clearly see their are only 5 rows of stars. here is the 36 star flag the 48 star flag the 50 star flag

Take a look at one of the shots where the mother is holding the folded-up flag ..... that's when I remembered to look .... appears to have stars in lined-up rows ?? That's why I thought 48.....
I suppose they could have used different flags in the same episode ??
Let me know..... and, thanks.

Great catch on the flag! It was a really good episode. It is funny because when you read Mary's book she never felt like she was a good actress but boy, she carried some strong stories!
