Question: Are or were there any television shows equivalent (or near equivalent) to The Waltons that were produced in Great Britain or Australia/New Zealand that you recommend unknowing Waltons fans to watch? Or perhaps produced in South Africa?
Just curious...
Thanks in advance.

I think most Waltons fans would like "All Creatures Great and Small" .... nowadays only on DVD but well worth the purchase!

I love All Creatures Great And Small, the books and the TV show. I wrote a letter to Mr Herriott's ( Alf Wight) son not long after his father died expressing my sympathy and saying how much I enjoyed the stories and he was kind enough to reply to me!

Thanks for the response; I'll check it out...
It appears we'll have to wait a bot for any Brit/Aussie response, as the former are deep in slumber and the latter are just finishing Monday workdays.
For some reason, it fascinates me that humans are always in some sort of cycle somewhere around the globe. Billions are asleep, while billions of others are awake. Billions are eating breakfast, whiile other billions are eatng dinner. The never-ending fluidity of it all is wild. Unlike the endless streams of gasses on Jupiter and Saturn, we have the endless stream of activities of humans and living things.

not many with kids, the Australian show The Terrible Ten I guess is abouyt the nearest and in the uk the Swallows and Amazons series some of which have been filmed. That is until I get Kay published then The Carriage Gang Tales and The Adventures Of Jack Beeston Oh and if Old men count then Last Of the Summer Wine is superb

It would have to be All Creatures Great And Small.
The above show played out life from fifty years previous to it's inception. Therefore it stands up very well to the required comparable standard. There are some excellent comedies, but those are different to a show like The Waltons, I guess.

I've never heard of any of the above but would like to look into it. There was a movie Disney made when I was about 10, Thomasenia (sp). I've found previews on youtube but not the movie. I'd love to see it again, seems like the kids were Scotish. Does anyone rem this?

There was a drama series a couple of years ago, set in Australia and possibly of Australian origin, about two sisters running a sheep ranch left to them by their father -- one of the sisters had come back home to Australia to join her sister and settle the estate -- and ended up staying. No kids that I remember, but a charming drama.... interesting neighbors and town folk.....
Anyone know what it was? And, whether it was in fact an Australian production?

May we include Canadian shows in this? How about "Wind at My Back" -- depicts Canada during the 1930's -- and written/produced by the same man who did the Anne of Green Gables stories......
Another nice drama, and this one does include kids.......
