Hi, I'm watching Anne of Green Gables right now, and I know there are some fans of the TV movie here on this forum, and I was just wondering what special things you like about this story? Also, for anyone who has not seen it, I highly recommend that you do.

My mom introduced me to the Lucy Maud Montgomery books long before there was a tv series..... Have always been an Anne lover -- even have an Anne doll! If you like Montomgery's Anne stories, you will also like her other books.....
Although I've seen other productions, my favorite will always be the Dewhurst/Farnsworth/Follows series......

My mom gave me the books to read when I was maybe 12 years old. I think I should read them again because I don't remember them as much. I absolutely love the Megan Follows series. I have the DVD set and watched it last night. I think the acting was brilliant , and the music is the prettiest .
I don't watch the " Continuing Story" nearly as much as I watch the other parts. I didn't enjoy it as much. They filmed a lot of the Anne series in Toronto, and Hamilton Ontario which is not far from me at all. The most beautiful scenery was Prince Edward Island though.

I regret to say that I didn't read Anne of Green Gables until after I watched the Dewhurst/Farnsworth/Follows TV movie on PBS back in the 1980s. I was an avid reader growing up, but for some reason I totally missed out on those books. I did become a big fan after I watched the movie, however, and both of my daughters did as well. We have taken two trips to Prince Edward Island together to visit the real "Anne" country, and I hope to go again someday. It is beautiful there.

I've done the PEI/Nova Scotia trip quite a few times (being of Scottish descent!)..... would love to move there..... Good Grief -- Hamilton? Huge city. The only good thing about it as far as I'm concerned is their AM 900 CHML radio station with runs old radio shows from the 40's every night !!! Followed by Joy Brown. Nope, I don't enjoy the later Anne series as much, either..... Do try to read other Montgomery books and stories; they have the same "tone."

LOL Jeri, you don't like Hamilton? I don't like driving there because most of the city is one way streets!
I love the love story with Anne and Gilbert...although Anne was very stubborn, and if it was me, I would have forgiven him a lot sooner than she did! I love the friendship with Anne and Diana.
Does everyone know that the actress who played Diana, Schuyler Grant, is the niece of Katherine Houghton, and the great-niece of Katherine Hepburn?

Oh, Gosh, wish you hadn't brought up Katherine Hepburn..... I just recently heard about the new autobiographical book this spring by ancient bartender-to-the stars, Scotty Bowers. Not stuff I want to know.....

Just because it's in print doesn't make it true.

Just because it's in print doesn't make it true. Except that Scott Bowers has been making the "interview circuit" ..... I've caught him twice now on tv and also read two articles about the book. Seems pretty legitimate.... I don't recommend it to anyone, 'tho..... Forum members tend to hang on to their illusions quite fiercely!!

I liked Katharine Houghton in "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner"; in fact, I liked Sidney Poitier, Spencer Tracey and Katharine Hepburn in that movie too . At the time (1967), it was one of my favourite movies.

One of my all-time favorites, too! The entire cast was superb. Of course, they had a great script to work with...... not many come along like that.

I gave up being that kind of fan years ago. What I take issue with is the currently popular trend to "expose" people in some way for money or notoriety - the maligned individual of course being long dead and unable to answer the accusation. If Katherine Hepburn comes back to speak to whatever it is he says about her, then I'll listen. I won't bore you with personal stories but it happens to the not-so-famous people too.
