tony. In my family house. We didn't have cable. This was in the 80's. Which has more channels. To this day, we don't have cable. We just have regular channels in color.

Brenda, glad you're back & have your power back on. We've had some bad storms here in VA but thankfully we didn't lose power. Today our temp reached 110, past 17 days have been above 90. We've had very little rain except for the storms, yards are brown & crunchy. We are blessed b/c there are thousands across the country without power.

Tonyray.....glad to hear that I am not the only one in the world that doesn't have a cell phone! I do just fine with my landline. I personally like "hearing" the person I am talking to....no texting here.

I don't have a cell phone...... Had one from 1998-2000 during the days of hubby and then again starting in about 2005 for four years -- kept it in car for emergencies. Drove me crazy having to remember to take it back and forth to the house for charging properly. Used it only twice in four years, both times to order pizza on the way home from somewhere! Got rid of it about 3 years ago. Perfectly happy!
It seems to me that people no longer have any privacy if everyone they know also know that they have a cell phone. How can you get "left alone" when you want ?? What can't wait until you get to a land phone? No one has any patience anymore for anything.....
I sometimes lie about my pc breaking down when I don't feel like going through email....
Also haven't had AC for two years now. Living room and bedroom units broke down at same time due to overuse during a two-week heat wave. All they need is to have the drip pans cleaned out. Haven't bothered, and with my dehumidifier and a couple of fans, I am perfectly comfortable. And my electric bill is remarkably low. Also, my car's AC has needed recharging for three years. I don't miss it -- just manage to make my shopping trips early in the morning!
Can you imagine that I just got gas recently..... my longest time between fill-ups ever ...... almost 8 weeks!! And I only get about 15 miles per gallon of premium. FYI, gas had gone down about 60 cents in that time period.....
Memories of one's youth come back ... Didn't have it then, don't need it now. So many attitudes change once one retires..... and so many things can be easily avoided or ignored. Simpler. Less anxiety. Peaceful !!
Of course, I realize my situation is quite different from someone who has kids to think about, people who depend on them, etc.......
