Do you have a favorite Baldwin sister? I adore both ladies but Miss Emily touches my heart in a way that Miss Mamie doesn't. Maybe it's her Innocent naive nature or her life long desire for Ashley mixed with her sweet, funny disposition. Mary Jackson was a gifted actress as was Helen Kleeb. Love both ladies "don't ya know" ;D

They worshipped The Judge, didnt they? I know Emily was stuck on Ashley, but why didnt they other ever get married?
All those episodes and They were never really drunk on the recipe ,were they?

I think their father probably discouraged all their potential suitors. And also, I think he was probably alive until they were well past their young adulthood. I have read stories where it was said if a woman did not get married by 25, she was on the shelf, an old maid.

I read somewhere on this board that they were actually created from a mother and a daughter who lived in the town where Earl Hamner grew up (Schuyler?)

Miss Mamie is my pick. She was more level headed than Emily. I love them both and can't imagine the show without them but sometimes Miss Emily tended to drift off a bit.

I liked Miss Emily because she was a bit nutty. Both were outstanding!

I love both of them, I thought they were the perfect "sisters". I like how everyone treated them so delicately. Do you think everyone treated them like that because they were so clueless, rich, or had the recipe? Maybe people just really liked them?

I think people just really liked them because they were so sweet.
I think both were chronically a little tipsy on The Recipe.
I love them both, but Miss Emily is my favorite.
grtgzu, they were based on real-life people, but it was a mother and daughter rather than sisters.

I think people just liked them because they were so nice to everyone. They always tried to help people. Gave grandpa a job so he could pay the electric bill, the girl in the big brother money to buy medicine, etc. They were sincere. I do think Grandpa, John, Ike, John Boy all felt they had to look after them since they were so naive and fragile.
