John lost his temper, but I don't think he was abusive at all. I like when he was in a bad mood, and Ben shot the rock with his sling shot at the flower pot hanging from the porch, and John and Livvy were underneath it...the look on his face was priceless. What episode is that? ?

I also thought Ralph Waite did a good job showing anger when things went wrong. In The Thanksgiving Story after John Boy was hit by the broken belt, we see John out by the saw mill throwing things, obviously blaming himself for the accident. He was also very natural kicking things and throwing things when tires went flat, saw blades broke, etc. throughout the series. I think he was a wonderful actor and should have gotten an Emmy!

Just saw the first NCIS episode again tonight with Ralph as Jethro's father.... there were some good "anger moments": in that, too..... When it comes to NCIS, I don't know which is better casting -- Ralph as Gibbs's father or Robert Wagner as DiNozo's father !! Truly brilliant casting in both cases. Of course, I'll take Ralph over RJ any day.....
As always, the closing moments in today's NCIS episode -- where Jethro and his father are hugging, and Jethro finally calls him Dad -- I sat there on my sofa with tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat. Ralph ALWAYS gets to me !!

The Outrage when Johndefends Harley who was accused of murder against the sheriff and the law. And John and Harley eventually won. Also the episode I can't remember the name where John gets burned out stressed out and wants to quit being a lumberman Mary Ellen, the family and the townspeople finally talk him back into working. That wasgreatRalph Waite acting. WmFanSportwriter
