I think they were pickled from drinking the recipe their whole life.

I love those scenes with the Baldwins and the recipe. They never realized why Grandma and Olivia never liked the recipe.

the recipe would have been clear. Whiskey is clear right after being distilled and gets it's brown color after being aged for around 25 years in oak barrels that have been burned on the inside.

I don't think the whiskey you buy at the bars is aged that long though, is it? It's brown.

I saw one episode (I don't remember which one) where a visitor on Walton's mountain tried the recipe and said it was the "best sour mash I ever tasted."
Does anyone remember what episode this was?

I believe that is from "The Star" season 2, but I sure could be wrong on that! I get confused at times what happened in what episode . I remember seeing some wooden kegs in the Baldwin sisters recipe room that had date stamps on them, and I'm thinking that was also in The Star.

Do you think the Baldwin sisters were tipsy most of the time or did they save the recipe for special occasions?

You know I never realized the danger about the Recipe still being indoors. I mean stills are known to be explosive.
Another thing that's interests me is if anyone suffered lead poisoning from drinking the Recipe?

Do you think the Baldwin sisters were tipsy most of the time or did they save the recipe for special occasions? Since they treated it as a cordial, I doubt if they ever drank enough to get drunk. I expect that they rarely, if ever, felt the full impact of the Recipe. Most likely, they felt nothing more a light buzz.

Copper poisoning more likely. The tubing was copper I think Considering that pipes are often made from copper, I don't think there's a big risk of copper poisoning from the Recipe.

Hi Patriciaanne. I was kidding. Cupric poisoning is rare these days. Copper miners used to get cupric poisoning in the days of hands on mining Cyprus was renowned for it but it was a long time ago In the native tongue Cyprus is Kypnos. Greek for copper as far as I can remember. Spent a lot of time on the island but that was many years ago. Can't remember that much about it. You might want to look it up. I don't know how to do all that google geeky stuff

I wonder if The Recipe was anything like Poitin (Pronounced potcheen) which is Irish moonshine?
