What do you think the "Recipe" tasted like? Was it along the line of whiskey? Since Olivia did use some of the Recipe in her cake frosting after Grandma let it out that that is what was used in the original recipe for the cake frosting?
I also noticed that at one point, I think in the early episodes, when the Recipe was poured into a clear container, it had an Amber color to it, later in the series, it changed to being clear. Anyone else notice this and question why they changed the color? Is homemade alcohol like the Baldwins made typically clear, or is there usually a color?
Was "The Recipe" the Baldwins made smoother than "White Lightening"?

Maybe some 100 proof Jack Daniels or something but I'm sure what they drank on the show was less than fruit punch. Now that would be funny if they really acted drunk lol. Can you imaqine. John Ritter/Rev Fordwick. falling out of the truck in the Sinner for example. That would be really funny if he were blitzed but with good acting who would know! LOL. wmfan

Real "shine" is clear in color...(I learned this watching "The History of Moonshine" or (something like that) on the History Channel.....And there's a reason why it's called White Lightin' too....makes you feel like you just got hit by some when you drink it, LOLOLOL!!....

grtgzu is correct. Real shine is clear in color. My family is Italian, and we call it "grappa". You can buy it at the liquor store. It clears your sinuses pretty quick!

I always thought that the Baldwins must have somehow masked the strong alcoholic taste of the whiskey and made it taste somehow like a delicious soft drink, hence how they could both be so oblivious to it and also how people can be seen to casually drink huge glasses of it! Although I'm not very alcoholically minded, so I could easily be wrong!

I'm not a hard liquor drinker Daniela, but I'd have to try that to clear my sinuses sometime. Too much alcohol gives me sinuses though so I dont know lol. Best wishes . wmfan

Gethsemani Farns Fruit Cake from Kentucky includes Kentucky Bourbon. Since Kentucky and Virginia share a common border and they shared issues in the early days(CF The Virginia-Kentucky Resolutions against the Alien- amd Sedition Laws) the Kentucky Bourbon is probably similar to Virginia in taste.

What was REALLY funny yesterday was when the "Ladies" were explaining to Jason what they wanted him to do, and how they planned to send the President a jar of The Recipie....
It was so funny and I laughed so HARD, I almost fell off the couch.....The cat just looked me at kinda strange....(like "now what"?)

They really had NO CLUE what they were brewing up. I do remember hearing them call their recipe a 'cordial' at one time. What do you suppose they used as mash to get it started? Corn, Rye or something else? I don't remember the show ever touching on what the main ingredient was, or where they got their hand on it.

Oh! They told Jason what the ingredients were - and I believe I heard corn being used to start the mash...And branch water too! (episode was aired on Hallmark yesterday)..I was absolutely FLOORED at how they went into extensive detail as to how they made booze....That's what made it so funny, cuz it was said so "matter of factly"....You coulda sold me for a nickel after that whole dialogue was done....

Thanks grtgzu! I remember the branch water - but I will have to pull out that episode and pay closer attention when the Baldwins are giving the instructions! That is what makes this forum so great - pose a question, get an answer ;D!
