I noticed on this forum that a lot of people have James Robert Walton's picture on their posting. Must be several other people that liked his character. I sure wish we could get him to come more out in the open. He was my favorite character especially in the last few seasons because we were so much alike.

Howdy,
I am just the same. David Harper did some good acting as Jim-Bob in l8r seasons. I just watched "The Calling" last night. The one where Jim-Bob falls in luv' with the future nun.

i agree. It seemed like Jim Bob was always the quiet one on the series, and yet when they did a story line featuring him, David really stepped up and delivered. i just watched "The Burden" from season 7 where he has a large part. I felt that the quality of David's acting helped to bring forth the depth of his character's feelings.

When I was younger Jim-Bob was my favorite character but now I'm more like John and Olivia. How funny pdudgeon, I was watching "The Burden" last night with my husband too. David also has a large part in "The Secret" (Season 4) and "The Tailspin" (Season 7). He's such a great actor.

The only other role I've seen David in was when he appeared briefly with Chevy Chase in one of the "Fletch" movies. IMO, the post-RT seasons brought out not only David's talent but the other actors as well. "The Secret","The Tailspin",,and the episode when Jim Bob wanted to join the Air Corps along with a young man adopted by Ep and Sarah Bridges, rank among my favorite Jim Bob episodes.

I think "The Secret" is on top of my list with "The Wing-Walker" and "Grandma Comes Home". :'(So sad, and yet so wonderful
Those were the best in my opinion.

He was very good in "The Wing Walker". He seemed so shy on the show to me though, sort of uncomfortable at times.

The character of Jim-Bob was always one of my favorites as well. I agree that David Harper seemed much more shy (almost uncomfortable in his own skin) during the last several seasons of the show. When I watch him in the first few seasons, he seems less self-conscious and more at ease when speaking. I had a bit of a crush on him as well

Nothing against Micheal Learned, she was a very good actress and very pretty too. I just never could figure out why she won all the Emmy Awards. The other cast members were very good also, for example when Ben and Jim-Bob got into a fight, when Jim-Bob stepped through a rotton board on the porch of an old house and made it look so real when you know he had to have known in real like it was going to give way. One more example, when Jim-Bob tripped over the ball that the dog left in the hall and made it look so real. I don't know the name of the episodes these scenes were in. You can tell I favor Jim-Bob but look at dear Ellen Corby, after having a stroke and still done a good job acting. I don't know who or how they judged on giving Emmy Awards but I think some of the other character deserved one. Let me know if I am wrong about this, if any of the other characters won any Emmy Awards.

Will Geer, Ellen Corby and Richard Thomas also won an Emmy Award.
The episode you were trying to remember is "The Traveling Man" where Nick the dog tearing up Jim-Bob's clothes and Jim Bob decides to fix the hayloft into his bedroom.
My favorite actor is Ralph Waite (John Walton) and I was suprised that he was nominated back in 1977-78(Season6) for Lead Actor in a Drama Series but didn't win but I think he should win for this episode called "The Prophecy" from Season 4 which is the best of the Walton's best episode.

I think Ellen Corby should've gotten something for "Grandma Comes Home". I think that is one of if not the best episode in the series, but I still have a little bias towards Jim-Bob's episodes, since he's my favorite character.
Michael Learned and David Harper were both at the top of their acting at the episode when Olivia leaves bcuz of the Tuberculosis. Great emotion, especially wonderful seeing so much coming from the quiet one: Jim Bob. One of his best moments was when he was telling his mom he wouldn't play her special song on the accordion for anyone else ever again, even if they begged him. That is my favorite Jim Bob moment.
Sincerely,
