That is great! Now, is this your first time watching it or, have you watched it before?

I have it but have never been able to really get into it since it's not the real parents, etc...

I have seen it before, but it has been years since I've seen it. I will be watching it tonight. I watched a couple scenes already. No disrespect to Patricia Neal, but I'm kind of happy she didn't continue to play Olivia when the show began it's 9 season run.

Agreed.
Patricia Neal was a great actress, however, playing the role of Olivia Walton was not the best portrayal for her.
It was nice seeing Ellen Corby and all the kids - but, I didn't like any of the other actors. Great movie overall, but would've been even better if it had the same actors/actresses in the TV show.

I agree, PLP927. I didn't like actor playing Grandpa, the actor who played Ike, the one who played John and I didn't like the one who played Sheriff Bridges. I'm happy that Ellen Corby and the kids were in the movie.

It is a wonderful movie adapted from the work of Earl Hamner. The movie was cast with actors who brought the Hamner characters to life. There was no indication at the time of the filming that a series would be developed. The series arose out of the popularity of the movie. The Homecoming can stand on it's own merits; story, characters and actors, and should be appreciated for itself, not as a comparison to the series. Thankfully the series did develop, but The Homecoming still remains one of the best holiday movies of all time, ranking with A Christmas Carol and It's a Wonderful Life. I hope anybody attending the New Jersey reunion honoring the 40th anniversary of the movie will update the forum on the upcoming weekend's activities.

john8486, the movie stands on its own just fine and to me has no connection with the Waltons, but I still don't like it.
