I know that some people think that by Season 9, the series was no longer enjoyable, but I have a question for everyone, would you have been happy if things had been different and a tenth season was made?
Personally, I would be quite happy if we had another season. I will admit that Season 9 wasn't quite as enjoyable as some of the earlier seasons, but it was still part of The Waltons and still of very high quality in my oppinion (even if they did ruin Curt!). But I'm interested to hear your thoughts.

I would have loved a season 10 if both Johns were there, plus Cora Beth and Ike. You're right about Curt. That was a really ridiculous story line.

If ideas were short, they might could have done a spinoff of the Waltons. Perhaps if Richard Thomas had been willing, they could have followed John Boy to New York. (Sort of the same concept like Frasier) Or they could have picked one of the children to follow, but which one? They could then occasionally return home to visit.

I don't think I could get into a Waltons story in NYC. My heart would always be on the mountain.

I definitely, over 100% would have loved for a season 10 and so on!
As long as they had to original cast, still lived on Waltons mountain, and Olivia well. I wouldn't have minded a different story line though. However, the ones were best when the family troubles were at home, not in another country, or in another state, etc.
No, I like for their troubles to be at home sweet home! After all, "there is NO place like HOME"!

Could you imagine them saying goodnight in an NYC penthouse?

Could you imagine them saying goodnight in an NYC penthouse? Heh heh, very funny. Especially as it would probably be John-Boy living by himself there and so would be him saying goodnight, and then sighing when he remembers he can't do his old goodnight sequence anymore!

Obviously they could not say goodnight in a penthouse, but they could have given the show a new direction by moving to NYC. OR they could have had a spinoff with Ben and Cindy moving out of that shed, and into a real house that Cora Beth sold them. Then they could have had a new storyline about a young couple raising a family in the 40's/50's in rural VA.

There had been plans for a 10th season. One episode had Jimbob's marrying Mary Conover after she left the Convent. Another had Mary Ellen's receiving word of Curt's death in Florida. But these were simply specualtions on possible episodes. Neither appeared very plausible to me---

It would have been nice to see the two youngest get married. Maybe....

I would have liked to have seen John and Olivia finally having their mountain top house after she recovered. The air at the higher elevation might have been better for her. Then Ben and Cindy could take over the house. But I think that the dream house was one of those things that was never meant to happen.

When making a spinoff, I think it's best to take a totally different tack -- so, NYC would be okay with me for a spinoff -- but not if you're trying to recapture "The Waltons." I never could understand Olivia's move to Arizona for TB -- I thought AZ was for arthritis and other joint problems (because of the dry heat). I thought it was detrimental for lungs -- because of the "desert dust" causing silicosis..... but I guess the low humidity might be better than too much moisture. Gotta look that up.....

This is why spin-offs don't usually survive.
