Anybody else a little disappointed in the Seashore? With such a beautiful setting, on location and all, I guess I expected a little more of a storyline. Of course, I always like the ones that are about the immediate family best instead of the outsiders. I just felt it was a waste of a location shoot.

I liked The Seashore because it was different..... it was an interesting war-time episode, with many threads..... Just spending time at the Baldwins cottage was special, and Lisa was unique. It was good to have another music student for Jason to relate to. And, I loved all the complications with Ben trying to find some time for himself. All in all, pretty good, I thought.....

I understand that they had to come up with new ideas to keep the show fresh, but I agree - I always like the ones that are about the immediate family best instead of the outsiders.

I can't think of many episodes which did NOT include an outsider as a major part of the storyline -- they are almost necessary for further character development.... I suspect the real "discomfort" felt while watching The Seashore has more to do with being away from Waltons Mountain, especially the home itself.....

That's it JeriJet, being away from the big, white, homey house!

That's it JeriJet, being away from the big, white, homey house! After remarking that most of the episodes involved outsiders, I decided to take a look back (I usually go to "the-waltons.com") and see if the "feeling" I had was true .... From what I can see, Season One has only 7 out of 24 episodes which DO NOT have much to do with outsiders. Just think of The Foundling, The Carnival, The Sinner, The Boy from the CCC, The Ceremony, The Legend, The Literary Man, The Dust Bowl Cousins, The Minstrel, etc., etc... There are 17 episodes in Season One (when presumably the writers were not struggling to come up with stories...) which fully involve characters other than the immediate family, and frequently strangers.....

I always hoped for more episodes that took place right in the home with the family, but you can only do so much with that.
