Did John Boy graduate from college? It seems that he was taking classes. Then after he bought the printing press, I didn't hear as much about classes and he moved to NY. I never heard of him finishing. Anyone have any info?

[not sure what is being said above--is that second but actually the word "not" or extraneous...] I thought that, recently on the forum, it was concluded that John-Boy did not graduate college, at least not by completing four consecutive years..... he moved to NYC and started "serious" writing..... also, I don't believe he had completed college when he started writing overseas during WWII.....

I was typing with one hand and no reading glasses while eating oatmeal early this AM. I clicked on the wrong choice on my spell check menu. But did NOT graduate.

Somehow that surprises me. He just seemed like someone who was intent on finishing. I'll bet if Richard Thomas didn't leave the show after season 5, he would have graduated. Too bad they had to alter the scripts due to actors leaving. I would like to have seen how it played out otherwise.

The scripts continued on with John-Boy working in NYC, then in Europe during the war.... Then there was the whole "recovery" from wounds..... It doesn't appear to have anything to do with Richard leaving the show.

Earl Hamner did not graduate college until after the war.
We had to really suspend our disbelief when JB returns and starts a career at the college in the new TV department without even a BA under his belt

I've also wondered about this and like so many other things I chalk it up to not every single aspect of their lives was aired. The way I've always viewed the show is that these are one man's recollections and like stories I've heard from my Grandparents ~ they were not always told the exact same way everytime.

There are many employees at colleges who do not have degrees -- it could make sense that some of them were former students.....

That would thwart one of the reasons for paying all of that tuition if you could become head of a department without a degree

I suspect it might be a different case with the fledgling tv experience....
