Good morning all. The other day I looked at my DVR schedule and I saw that there were as many as 11 Walton episodes scheduled to be recorded for most days (between Hallmark, INSP, and other channels). That's almost half a season right there! At first I was happy, then I thought about it a bit and wondered if it wasn't a bit of too much of a good thing.
Don't get me wrong, it's great to be able to turn on the TV pretty much anytime and be able to watch the show (this is besides the fact that you can watch any episode you want at any time on DVD). But I thought about whether it was better when there was a single episode on in a week, it was at a set time and you couldn't record it. You either watched it live or you missed it (not sure if they showed reruns in the summers then).
Just a thought. Nobody's forcing me to watch anything. If I really thought it was so great, I would just select one episode of the week, watch it, and leave it be. I suppose a great thing about living when we do is you can choose.

I'm with you, Mark.... Even with just Hallmark, that's 15 shows a week. When they first started up, I was thrilled. Now, however, I'm getting a little tired of it all.... whereas until now I would watch nothing else during that time period, I no longer have a problem watching something else. Of course, it would have to be something wonderful! I'm also getting more housework done in the afternoon! I think I'd be happiest with 3-4 episodes shown on one day per week. That would make it a special event for me....
I have given up with TiVo and DVD's -- somehow I just don't enjoy shows as much when I utilize those opportunities. Can't tell you how many DVD's I have recorded or purchased, never to be watched.... I get more out of it if I know it's my one chance.... Weird, huh?

I also brought this up some time ago that INSP had it on 2 hours a day and Hallmark 3, now it's INSP 3 and Hallmark 3 I believe. That's 6 hours a day. It's no longer a thrill to turn on the tv and watch the Waltons. Too much is right. But they're still my favorite show!

Nonsense! Y'all must have had too much of the recipe! One cannot have too much Waltons and just remember, not long ago they were not on at all. Someday there will be a Walton network.

Heh heh -- good point max although I wasn't on the recipe when I wrote that (although wouldn't it be great to try it?). Jerijet and Marilyn and I are just great appreciaters of the show and don't want it to get too watered down by overexposure. When you are an addict of the show like I am, you need to pace yourself and only watch so much. An example for me is the Christmas special, the Best Christmas. I watch it only on Christmas Eve because I love it, and it doesn't lose its charm for me.

I agree with Mark on the 'watered down' comment. I have insomnia, really, really bad, so I like to watch an episode or two of the Waltons in bed at night with my little 7" DVD player and headphones. It helps shut my brain down enough to get sleepy and then drift off. If I see it on tv 5 times during the day, then at night it's nothing special and I don't look forward to going to bed. Used to be night time was a good time because I knew I had the Waltons waiting for me. Now the excitement is gone, so I started watching Northern Exposure episodes at night. I still watch the Waltons on occasion, such as the last two nights, but not every night like I used to. I don't even turn Hallmark or INSP on every day now. I love the Waltons with all my heart and always will, but familiarity breeds contempt, so to speak and sometimes I need time away from them so I can come back and appreciate them once again.

> Nonsense! Y'all must have had too much of the recipe! Actually, I "acquired" some of Yancy Tucker's White Lightning and put it in my Starbucks Frappucino. I'm at the library now, but I plan to get home in time to see "The Secret" tonight -- I think it's on GMC but I don't remember what time -- and have a good cry. Debby

Oh, man, I LOVED NORTHERN EXPOSURE! What wonderful characters and sooooooooooooo funny! Neat stories, too -- like when Joel was trying to prove the existence of the phony bigfoot (Adam Arkin)-- and was able to do so only by the garlic press in the snow !!! There were so many unusual characters -- Marilyn had to b e one of my favorites !!

JerriJet and Marilyn -- I love your posts so much because it reminds me of things I have thought too. Sounds like we all have common experiences about the show and am very glad to have you hear, see your great thoughts. Keep it up!

If you have been watching Hallmark the last couple of days you would know that they have started their Christmas specials and there is only one Walton episode at 2pm ---3 pm in the East. Today is one of my favorites which was initially shown 36 years ago last Sunday The Loss. Tomorrow is The Abdication which was initailly shown November 20.1975--thirty six years ago this coming Sunday.
