Yes, I agree, they should also air The Thanksgiving Story. For most of us it doesn't really matter--if we want to watch a certain episode, we can just pop the DVD in, but the TV showings are good for people who don't have the DVDs or to catch the eye of somebody who has never seen The Waltons--that way they can come to love it as much as we do! Remember in The Typewriter when John-Boy tells the Baldwin sisters he wrote about the Recipe in his book and Miss Mamie says "why everybody in the world should know about the Recipe"....well I feel the same way about The Waltons!!

Nuts, found out we'll be at a Boston terrier playtime get-together. I have the movies too, but for some odd reason, it's more fun to watch them on tv.

Uh, Marilyn, don't you mean "Boston Terrorist?" Just kidding. I love Bostons.
I watched the first Thanksgiving special -- the one filmed right after the regular series ended in 1982 -- and found it to have the authenticity that the regular series had. Yancy Tucker for just being himself. Jonesy being happy-go-lucky. And Jim-Bob showing rare arrogance in the "root beer scene" at the Dew Drop. But the arrogance does not go unpunished the next day, when Jim-Bob has to, uh, reason with Isabella the Turkey, who gives him a real run for his money. He is NOT happy. For reference, the only animal I've seen Jim-Bob's character really warm up to and like was Reckless (not sure of the episode -- I think it could have been "The Grandchild").
The second Thanksgiving special, which revolves around the JFK assassination, I kept on for background noise. It was all right. I wasn't surprised that Mary Ellen became a doctor. I was sort of surprised that Erin and Paul got divorced. And I thought "typical Jim-Bob" when he defied Mary Ellen by taking Clay up in the plane. Even as an adult, he never outgrew that devilish streak. John-Boy was eloquent as usual.
I am old enough to remember when The Waltons originally ran on network TV, and really liked the first three reunion movies (from 1982). But the later ones, from the 1990s, really could have been better.

Well, I don't have cable. But, I'm planning watching The Waltons thanksgiving story on Thanksgiving. Something to watch, while waiting for Thanksgiving dinner or just need to watch something, when theirs nothing on tv.

Of course, Buttercup! That's what DVDs are for! I'm fortunate that I live with my father and he has cable, so I'm able to watch The Waltons on Hallmark and GMC ... but eventually I want to buy The Homecoming, The Waltons Season 1-9, and the first three reunion movies from 1982 ... and Mary McDonough's book and Goodnight, John-Boy.

My favorite of The Waltons Thanksgiving specials is A Walton Thanksgiving Reunion. I don't care much for A Day of thanks On Waltons Mountain. Hard to believe Thanksgiving is in 15 days.
