Earl Henry Hamner Sr.BIRTH 18 May 1899 Buchanan County, Virginia, USA DEATH 1 May 1969 (aged 69) Schuyler, Nelson County, Virginia, USA The father of Earl Hamner, Jr. and the inspiration for the character John Walton in the hit television program "The Waltons." From the data shown on that page, I notice Earl Sr was a middle child in a family of 10 children. Relating to the Waltons story, it would be akin to Zeb & Esther having 10 children. I wonder if Earl Jr ever wrote about the lives of his 9 paternal aunts & uncles.

Earl named several people on The Waltons from his relatives. Yes, I clicked on the "Find A Grave" link and saw that Earl Sr.'s mother had the maiden name of Spencer.
