I don't remember the episode, but John, Mary Ellen and John-Curtis were outside and John was kneeling down to greet his grandson. Suddenly, John-Curtis blurted out that he had new pants. It was easy to see that Ralph was surprised at the interruption (the grin was a big give-away) but he went with it, asking the boy where he got them. He pointed off-screen and I believe he said 'Pat'.
I love that they left it in the scene. It was completely out of context, but I smile every time I see it.

Kami has said he was referring to Patricia Norris. I don't recall what her job was on set. Ralph handled it well. 😉

According to IMDb, Patricia was costumer on The Waltons from '72 to '77.
She also did costumes for Sybil (with Sally Field) and wardrobe for Helter Skelter.

Yes, from what little I read, she was very accomplished in her career.

I was never too much impressed by John Curtis. Kami wasn't much older than that in The Homecoming, yet she was already, at that young age, an accomplished actress.
Just sayin'.

I think that the writers never gave him much to do. In the first three TV movies, when he was played by Dave Friedman (more famous for the final season of "Little House on the Prairie), the role was bigger. He was played by Michael and Marshall Reed (real last name Effertz) on the TV show.

The twins, Marshall and Michael Reed, were born in April 1977, so they were only 3 years old during the filming of the final season of The Waltons. Kami was born in June 1965, so she was 6 during the filming of The Homecoming and 7 during Season 1 of The Waltons. There is a big difference in a 3 year old and a 6 or 7 year old. One thing I noticed about John Curtis when he was a toddler was that he seemed to have a good rapport with Mary Ellen. He would reach for her when someone else was holding him, making it believable that she was his mother.

Brenda Couldn't agree more that John Curtis was a pleasant addition to the later Walton episodes. He seemed to be a late talker though, either that or they cut out many scenes where he might have said something that didn't fit in. He also seemed to go into the arms of other people rather easily (maybe not as easy with Mary Ellen though). I'm guessing that being identical twins, both John Curtises behaved similarly.

... I'm guessing that being identical twins, both John Curtises behaved similarly. Psychologists have been studying twins for over a century in efforts to establish the relative effects of genetics and environment. I don't think I'd want to grow up with a twin. Having a near-duplicate around would induce competition and dependence, which would be tough to reconcile. I'd guess that an identical twin would intensify the issues.

I just saw the episode The Outrage where Eb Bridges has just questioned Harley Foster about his identity and the family is at the table having a meal. Erin is talking about Lena Horne entertaining troops when out of the blue John-Curtis says he got new pants, from Pat. So cute.

But at the beginning of the thread someone says it happens outside as well. I didn't know he said it twice.

That was me. I misplaced the scene outside instead of inside.
