I was watching The Diploma last night and it made me start to wonder whether or not I'd be able to pass my high school exams if I had to take them again (for whatever reason.) I only did them about eight years ago, so that's a lot more recent than it would have been for John or it would be for a lot of you here on the forum, if you were to find yourself in that situation. Personally, I think I'd get a low pass at best (without doing lots of studying first!). Do you think you'd be able to do well? I think John's own struggles and the amount of studying he had to do, show us that there's no shame if the answer is "no"

I don't honestly know. It seems like my attention span is a lot less than it used to be.

It has been 35 years since I graduated high school. I can honestly admit that I would not pass...especially Math and Science!

I could. I learned more after finishing school than I did while there.

Well of course they would be online, and I would forget my Password and fail before I even got started!

I probably wouldn't have passed any of my HS exams 2 months after taking them--without studying again. All of that info was stored in "temporary" files in my brain and as I left the class the day of the test, they automatically began purging. That was a long way of answering your question, which is "No."

I graduated from St. Xavier High School in May of 1986, and the University of Louisville in May of 1990. I hated high school, but I loved college. I actually have had anxiety-ridden recent dreams related to high school, worrying about failing a class. I was a good student, but there was a lot of stress because my high school was hard. Dreaming about old school anxieties I think is a pretty common theme for a lot of people. I think our minds use those memories as a basis to compare all the things we encounter for the rest of our lives because school is so special to us. School is where we really break out of our shells and show our true selves. It's a scary time, but also an exciting and great time. Oh good grief, I think I'm starting to sound like John-Boy, but it's true!

Gordon, although from the UK system, I do agree with what you said, particularly your quote 'Dreaming about old school anxieties I think is a pretty common theme for a lot of people. I think our minds use those memories as a basis to compare all the things we encounter for the rest of our lives'. Yes you do sound like John Boy, and I salute you for that! 🌸

You don't really learn something until you apply it, so while I could retain enough of things like algebra, trigonometry, statistics, history, English grammar and so on long enough to pass tests, using these on the job really made them second nature. Also, having taught school and designed tests in the meantime has to help!

I think I'd do well on most subjects, with the exception of advanced science and higher math.... since I seem to annoy family and friends with the amount of stuff my brain has held on to! ... English, history, geography, even Latin, have stayed with me and grown quite a bit. It's another story with anything to do with pop culture and current events!

I guess I could pass most subjects. Just not math or science (would need a refresher course for sure).

Hopefully I would pass, since I have spent so much of my time home schooling Joel and Amelia. They will be going to Ecuadorian school this year for the first time. We are hoping that they have a GOOD year.

I could probably pass some science exams like biology and anatomy and physiology since I have had to keep up with those over the years and I think I'd do O.K. on English and History.I barely passed math the first time so I don't think I would want to take that one again!
