A while back, I can't find the original post, I think it was Brenda who asked in which episode Will Geer gives the same quote Edgar Bergen used in The Homecoming about you can't own a mountain any more than the ocean or a piece of the sky. I found it today in the episode "The Heritage" in the scene where Grandpa and John Boy were sitting in the hot spring. Grandpa said it to the man( Noah Beery) who wanted to buy the property to build a resort. He didn't say it exactly as Edgar did Some words were left out but it is essentially the same quote.
This is one of my favorites episodes since it also has the scene with Grandma and Grandpa sitting up on the mountain talking and Grandpa's advice to John about grabbing the brass ring, and John Boy's speech that it should be the little ones decision on whether they move or not..

Ah, I disagree. You can own a mountain. If the Waltons didn't own the mountain, the Noah Beery character could have built his resort wherever he wished, including on the mountain. But since the Waltons owned the mountain, the developer was out of luck!
