Watched the Inspiration which is the episode where Grandma comes home to help one of the Baldwin sisters. All the Waltons are very happy to get to see Grandma.
Everyone of the Walton kids --- and John --- all kiss Grandma right smack on the mouth. Ewwwww --- I loved my granny when I was a kid -- but no way would I even consider swapping slobber with her. Some things just ain't Cricket.

It's not uncommon in families. I think we did that when we were young too.

My family was more inclined to hugging rather than kissing. Here in the South, everyone hugs everyone all the time - it doesn't need to be family! It's a hard thing to get used to after growing up in "stand-offish" New England.

I remember my grandmother on my dad's side would lay one right on the lips whenever she would visit and I never cared for it, but hugs are a part of life down here. Even when I go into places I used to work, my old bosses will give me a hug. Doesn't bother me. I guess you get used to it. I'm not a fan of strangers calling me sweetie, honey, baby, darlin', etc. Happens at fast food restaurants all the time. Many young girls use these words. I guess that's just part of their raising. I have never called a friend or stranger these, what I consider, terms of endearment. That's just not my personality, I guess. Attachment Deleted

View AttachmentWhen I was younger and much more inclined to be offended by things, I was really annoyed by people I didn't know using these terms of endearment. But as I get older, I have far less energy to be offended. Now I look past the words at the intent. And if the intent is good, I'm ok with it. I've certainly been called worse things in my life than "honey." Lol

I'm not offended by these terms, it's just not something I would say to people--especially men. I saw many times when I once waitressed, women who would end up having men bothering or even to the point of stalking them because they read into these words way too much. In the service industry, sir and ma'am were always my replies. I also agree that I'm now inclined to not get bothered by things that used to irk me. My husband is the opposite. He used to tell me not to sweat the small stuff, now I find myself telling him that.
