One of the reasons I like the Waltons is how simple life was years ago.
Can you imagine singing in your car instead of having the radio on? I guess that's what they did before cars came with radios. Going on a simple picnic instead of having to spend hundreds taking the family to a theme park or some attraction. Making ice cream with the wild blackberries you picked when having a guest instead of spending $100 or so on drinks, dinner spread, pizza, ect.
I've been trying to simplify my life in the last couple of years. One thing I like to do is turn on a couple of kerosene lamps in the evening. I like the ambiance of kerosene lamps and I've gotten used to the low level of light. My favorite place to spend some time is at my local park just walking or bringing a snack to have a picnic lite.
I'll have to try singing in my car:
You take the high road and I'll take the low road and I'll be in Scotland afore ye. But me and my true love will never meet again, On the bonny, bonny banks of Loch Lomond.
What are your simple pleasures?

I used to love going for a walk but I need a double knee replacement so there hasn't been much walking in awhile. I enjoy crocheting. I enjoy my garden. I enjoy hearing a summer rain on the roof. I love to catch a beautiful sunrise or sunset. I enjoy driving around and taking in all the beauty where I live. I take back roads as much as possible. At certain times of the year it is particularly beautiful and I often say I feel like I'm driving through a painting.

I sing that song when we are hiking and the trail splits into two. Usually one trail is a little higher then the other and I always sing that song. Singing in the car brought back a pleasant memory. When I was younger, I would go down to the shore with a couple of friends. I remember the radio was broken and my friends (a brother and sister) could sing really well. I would drive and they would sing. What a lovely time we had with no radio and just us singing! One of my simple pleasures is just baking in my kitchen. I find it very restful. Or, having a big pot of soup going on a rainy day. Or, going for a nice, quiet hike in the woods.

I get that feeling every time I see them crank up one of those old Fords without all the gadgets. The dashboard of my new Camry looks like an F-16 fighter.

My parents own a cabin in northern Pennsylvania. No tv, no internet, and no cell phone service (for me, my parents' phone works). There's nothing like a weekend with the entire family up there (which includes my brother, sister-in-law and two nieces).
Breakfast as a family, a hike or ride through the woods, lunch, nap, outdoor games, dinner, then either a campfire or dominoes at night until we go to bed.

Growing up my daddy and I would each get a five gallon bucket and turn it upside down to use as a seat whenever a rainstorm came through. We would sit out on the covered patio or in the garage on our buckets and enjoy the sights, smells and sounds of the rain and nature. We would often use our bucket seats to sit outside at night and gaze at the stars. I still enjoy sitting out on my porch when a rainstorm comes through or gazing at stars. We have a metal roof and I enjoy hearing the rain on it.
Sometimes we will all eat by candlelight. The foreverettes get a kick out of that and it's such a simple thing to do. I enjoy doing puzzles and playing Scrabble, Aggravation or the card game Rook.

Sounds like a perfect place and a great place to go. Take me with you!!!!! We go to a cabin in the Adirondacks for a week each summer. A week is never long enough. We just got a new game. It is called " Roasted or Toasted" (or the other way around). We got it in Shenadoah this summer. We played it when the Foreverttes were here. It is a lot of fun! The first person to light a fire and roast three marshmallows wins the game. Just watch out for the wind or rain cards!

When we visit friends in New York State, the husband takes them all over their 35 acres on their ATV. My grandson will wake up in the morning and the first thing he says is "ATV!"

I like sleeping in my sunroom as I can hear the rain hitting the roof. Such a nice sound. Bedtime lullaby! If the rain is not too hard and their is no thunder, I will take the grandkids out for a walk. We sing, " Singing in the Rain" as we stroll along with our umbrellas.
