Another surprising Walton sighting. Watching Madam Bovary (1949) starring Jennifer Jones, Van Heflin, James Mason and Louis Jourdan. 45 minutes into the movie, Ellen Corby enters as one of the Bovary's house maids. She appears again at 1 hr 6 min tending to their baby daughter. She's young (37) and has a soft voice. Her name is Felicite. Here is her photo in costume from the movie:

I watched the episode today as well (Season 7, Ep 1) filmed in 1962. Ellen Corby's name was Hortense Durango. Cheyenne didn't want to marry the Durango brothers' sister and we'll just say, ma and the boys weren't happy about it! By the way, their sister was played by a young Sally Kellerman--she played Major Margaret "Hot Lips" Houlihan in the movie M.A.S.H.

Will Geer turned up on an old episode of Bonanza on one of those secondary-digital channels earlier Friday. Crusty old guy, rather like "Grandpa" (but probably the villain of the story), just without the mustache.

Just watched one of the 'lost episodes' of Bonanza on INSP. The episode is titled "The Weary Willies" and originally aired on 9/27/1970. The weary willies are a group of Civil War veterans who are struggling to re-enter society.
This episode had several people in it that would be on "The Waltons."
Richard Thomas played Billie. He was one of the weary willies. He had a terrible blonde shaggy hairstyle. He played the guitar and sang plus he quoted Walt Whitman. Of course he became John Boy. Who was his love interest on this Bonanza episode? Why none other than Lee Purcell. She played Angie Cotler the store owner's daughter. She went on to play Bobbie Strom on "The Wing Walker" Season 4 Ep. 7. She was blonde in this Bonanza episode and a brunette on The Waltons.
Another of the weary willies was Mayf Nutter as Pellemia. He played Bobby Bigelow on several episodes of The Waltons.
Lou Frizzell played Dusty Rhodes. He was in "The Bicycle" Season 1 Ep. 22 as Everett Cooper and in "The Empty Nest" Season 7 Ep. 1 as Joe Murdock.

Watched a good movie last night that I have never seen nor heard of before called "The Southerner" (1945). It stars Zachary Scott and Betty Field and Beulah Bondi as Granny Tucker. It is about the trials and tribulations of farm life. I enjoyed it very much and of course Beulah Bondi was terrific in it. She was only about 56 in this movie and so they used makeup to make her look older for the part of Granny.

I love Clint Eastwood. Tonight I'm watching (again) "High Plains Drifter" (1973) with Yancy Tucker (Robert Donner) playing the part as 'The Preacher'. Clint, of course, plays the role of 'The Stranger'.

Just watched a documentary about Humphrey Bogart and they showed a clip from Sabrina (the 1954 version) and lo and behold Ellen Corby was in the scene they showed. I don't know whether she had a big role in the movie (I haven't seen it in its entirety) but her name was on the list of cast on IMDb.

John Crawford was a supporting player in "The Man in the Lead Mask," a 1953 episode of The Adventures of Superman, which was re-run on Me-TV just last night.

Watching "Lust for Gold" (1949) on GetTV. Will Geer is a clean shaven corrupt deputy named Ray Covin. He gets in a fist fight at the end of the movie. While trying to stomp a man's hands who is holding on to the edge of a cliff, he gets bitten by a rattlesnake in the neck (twice) and ends up falling off the cliff himself. Good movie about greed.

And moved to the city. Beulah was very good. She looked and acted so much older then her real age. Would never have thought she was only 56.
