I was watching the Volunteer recently where GW surprised or caught Erin off guard with his quiet marriage proposal to her. She didn't accept. GW signed up for the Army and was eventually killed in the. Next episode the First Casualty. I know Erin didn't do it intentionally but did her turning down GW's marriage proposal devestated him enough to sign up for the Army where he eventually was killed I've always wondered what he would have done or how it would have been written inif Erin had accepted. Men went to war in those days and bothGW and Curt were killed after marrying or dating the WALTON sisters. What did you think of this turn of events in the Volunteer when Erin didn't accept GW's marriage proposal?

When she came back from visiting him, she said they were just friends. I would have married her to the guy who was building his own cabin.,they would have had lots of babies up on the mountain!

If he hadn't signed up he probably would have been drafted at some point.

I think that GW would have eventually been drafted, or joined voluntarily, with or without Erin. He still would have been careless with grenades. Then, there might have been two Walton widows. That would have made Elizabeth's boyfriend Drew fairly nervous, and he would have hightailed it out of town. With no men left, the three Walton sisters would have become spinsters like the Baldwin sisters.

I still think GW is perfect for Erin. Chad couldn't even wait for Erin to graduate and that was only a few months (or a few episodes) later. GW's land and Erin and a new generation is born. Sounds like a spin off to me.

I always wondered what Erin did with the land she inherited from G W. I'd like to think she might have ended up with someone else: me!

I believe when the guy who built that house asked Erin for her hand she was too young and John definitely told her that. Perhaps that fellow should have been a little more patient with her and it would have worked out for them.

Then they would have some funds to be happy spinsters.

Sounds like a spin off to me. I always wondered why Erin could not be married and still finish school? she would have graduated as Mrs Chad but surely a few months as a married woman could not have posed that big an obstacle to still going to school and finishing? Or was it the attitude that kitchen and bedroom duties must take up all her time once a girl is married on Walton's Mountain...?

Relationships are so much about timing aren't they? I think had GW lived, he and Erin would eventually have married - like Elizabeth and Drew. At the time of GW's proposal, they were both just too immature. I like to think that an older GW would have bided his time and waited for Erin to grow up, while an older Erin would have valued GW for himself and not as Maryellen's castoff. I always wished the writers had kept GW in the show - he had a lot more impact than some of John-boys girlfriends.

What ever happened to Mary Ellen's widow benefits she would have gotten 10 thousand dollars when Curt was reported killed.

If she had married GW I don't think she would have gone with him to live on base. GW would have been deployed overseas and Erin would have stayed back home. Just my opinion.

Suppose Erin had married Rev.Buchannon? Would she have made a good preacher's wife?

What ever happened to Mary Ellen's widow benefits she would have gotten 10 thousand dollars when Curt was reported killed. She lost it when he turned up a alive. But the government did not know he was alive. She would have had what five years of payment or is it a lump sum?
