I really like Cousin Zadok, and would have liked to see his character in the rest of season 8 and as a major character in season 9. I never viewed him as a "replacement" for Grandpa, just a member of the older generation. His personality had some similarities with his Cousin Zeb's personality, but they were different at the same time. I loved listening to his stories and songs in "The Remembrance."

I figured they were testing the waters with a replacement grandpa with the moonshine guy (Zeb's brother) and decided that there could only be on grandpa and moved on.

Talking about Boone, I posted this image quite some time ago. It was during the episode in which the Baldwin sisters lose the recipe for The Recipe and Jason helps Boone figure it out. At one point, Boone is standing behind the still taste-testing the results. Jason is standing beside him and Boone, I believe, says to the sisters that he didn't really have any experience in making The Recipe, and then Boone squints and his right eye turns slyly to the right to see if Jason is going to say something to give him away. There's a lot of Grandpa in that look:

I don't think so. He was ok but he wasn't grandpa I take replacement in twinkle's post as a metaphor. If you read the initial post, the suggestion was to keep Zadok as someone who depicted the vital element of the older generation which was sorely missed from the show after Grandpa & Grandma departed the show.

No one could replace Grandpa, but I think Zadok could have added that old world charm. I thought he was smashing

Earl's narration and closing dialogue, The Remembrance:
"Cousin Zadok had the picnic that had been pledged to him 21 years before. And having found our family suitable custodians for the fiddle, he left it with us when he departed on Monday morning. My father wanted to give him a ride back to Big Spruce Knob, but he set out on foot. He said, 'It's such a pretty day, I think I'll walk.' "
Elizabeth: Daddy? John: Yes Elizabeth? Elizabeth: You reckon Cousin Zadok's home by now? John: I don't expect it matters Honey. He just seems to enjoy traipsin' around. Elizabeth: Caucasin'. John: And Calahootin'. Elizabeth: It's almost as good as having Grandpa back with us, wasn't it. John: Almost. Elizabeth: Goodnight Daddy. John: Goodnight Honey. Goodnight everybody!
