If it were up to me, I wouldn't end the series. I'd want it to continue indefinitely... like a soap opera, incorporating all the historic events as they happen. I'd want top notch writers who don't expect us to ignore past storylines and give us closure to what happened to Ben and Cindy's kids. I'd also like to see Elizabeth and Drew married with Drew and Ben running the Mill and Elizabeth teaching.
Erin is now owner of JD Pickett's business with JD as her employee.
Jason and Toni are touring together with kids in tow (and also a part of their show)
John Boy and Janet live in Rockfish with their family. They are both college professors.
Maryellen & Jonesy and family are still practicing medicine for all neighboring communities
Jim Bob, founder of Walton Autoparts (now, a franchise) ran into Betsy Randall during a business trip. They married and are raising a daughter in Norfolk.
John and Olivia host family Sunday dinners every week on the mountain in their dream house.

I don't entirely agree with Mr. Hamner about the show's decline. I also think the first four seasons were the best of the Waltons' series but, I still enjoyed the quality of seasons six and seven. For me, the show started to hit the skids when Serena and Jeffrey showed up. Anyway, I would have ended the series with Founder's Day and Jason's Aaron Copelandish composition. As to what happened afterward?
-John Walton retired from the lumber business and was successfully elected Sheriff of Walton's Mountain following the retirement of Ep Bridges. -Oliva Walton recovered from her ailments and became an Art teacher at Boatwright. -John Boy, we all know went to Hollywood and eventually became a TV producer of the long running family drama, The Hamners. -Jason became a regular performer and host at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. -Mary Ellen Willard sold her late husband's practice to David Spencer. After the passing of Buck Vernon, she bought Vernon's junk yard, and became rich buying and selling antiques. -Erin Walton is the proprietor of G.W. Haines Seed Company, a very successful Garden store supplier she built on the land she inherited. -Ben Walton is the President and CEO of Walton Furniture Company, Inc. -Jim Bob Walton is a team owner of a major multi-car NASCAR operation. -Elizabeth Walton is Principal of Walton's Mountain School.

Wondering why there isn't a show on TV today that even comes close to the quality of the Waltons?

If I could have my wish, Grandma and Grandpa would have lived and been healthy and happy throughout the show. Olivia would have been healthy and stayed at home throughout the show. And, they all lived happily ever after. I was looking at my Old Virginia cookbook. At the same time you were listening to your music! Hugs! I think you would have gotten your wish (and mine) if it hadn't been for the real life events involving Ellen Corby and Will Geer. I am quite certain the show would have kept them happy and healthy till the end otherwise.

Jim Bob and Sexy Betsy gettingmarried , Erin owns JD PIcketts lol. And when you become a billionaire you can run the Waltons Network and 24 hour soap opera depicting how the crazy 21st century has changed and ruined the mountain and Martha Corrine and Grandpa will say graves are a shameful thing to neglect. Great post Nicolle and I like your ideas! WmFan Sportwriter

I was driving home the other day and listening to Walton music and got to thinking about how I would end the series. I have all the episodes but often only watch up to the end of season six when Grandma comes home. I read some where that Earl Hamner himself didn't like the direction the series was going after season five. Neither did I. So here goes: John Boy of course follows Earl Hamner's life. Marries... 2 children John and Olivia build the dream house on the mountain and retire there. Jason durture ng the war plays with the music shows for soldiers and goes on to compose and play music for Hollywood movies. Marries. 1 child Kurt returns from the war and he and Mary Ellen stay on the mountain continuing to provide medical care. 3 children. Erin marries Rev. Buchanon. 2 children Ben marries Cindy. He continues to run the mill and co-op. 5 children. Move into the house after John and Olivia move out. Grandma and Grandpa remain with them until they pass. Jim Bob marries Amy Godsey. 1 child. Run the store and garage. Elizabeth marries Drew who works with Ben and she becomes a school teacher. 2 child.
...AND THEY ALL LIVED HAPPILY EVER AFTER!
This is great! If I have some time, I will write my own "How would you end the series." It will be weird/warped, however. It won't be this sick/weird, though. Frank hopes he hasn't offended anyone. That mock article is bad and wrong.....but totally hilarious. Loved the ideas for the ideas. I was thinking of some of them for any future fanfiction.

It was sad when he died, but I am SOOOO glad they didn't try and "replace" him like they did other characters (John-Boy, Curt, etc.). No one could have played the role of Grandpa like Will Geer did.

I wonder if Will Geer would have lived longer if he had today's medicine and health care? Maybe they would have caught his heart problems before he had a heart attack.

How would I end the series?
I wouldn't! They'd currently be showing about the 48th season of The Waltons right now!
If only I ran the world!

We the viewer find out that the Ingalls ( from Little House Fame) Andy Aunt Bee, Opie, and Barney ( from the Andy Griffith Show) and the Waltons are all related. And they meet in a crossover episode of Star Trek or Doctor Who.

I like your Star Trek or Doctor Who crossover. It would probably be Doctor Who. The Enterprise wasn't built for time travel and the Doctor could take John-Boy of the future back to John-Boy of the past so he can tell himself to marry Jenny... or Daisy.
