Thank you, Forever! So it sounds like it's too early to call the hotel and make reservations at this point. The dinner would be Fri. night, the 31st most likely, right?
If it goes like last year - The meet and greet with the special guests & fans will be Friday evening/night October 31st. The next morning, Saturday November 1st, an autograph session with the special guests. Then you are free rest of the day until the dinner that night.
Most everyone goes to Schuyler between the autograph session and the dinner. Going to Schuyler you will pass the now closed Rockfish Post Office. At Schuyler everything is in walking distance of each other...Earl Hamner's childhood home, the shed he wrote in (now a gift shop), Ike's store, the hospital he was born in (now a private residence but the owner usually opens her home to the fans, last year she offered lunch for $5.00 - she had all kinds of food), the Baptist Church that Mr. Hamner attended growing up (they opened it last year so that you could go inside), the school Mr. Hamner attended that is now the Waltons Museum & gift shop.
I'm sure Carolyn will have a very emotional tribute to Ralph Waite plus November 1st is her birthday - so I hope those who attend will make it special for Carolyn.
It sounds wonderful.

I sure hope I get to go this year. I will probably reserve myself a spot at least with Carolyn and the hotel. The tough part for me is getting the time off work...it's about a day of travel each way coming from the western states especially as you can't fly directly there. And I have a huge project at work due about that time doesn't it figure. Keeping fingers crossed! I know it won't be as big as the 2012 event in California but I would love to be able to visit the museum, house, etc. You never know as the show gets older and older if it will all still be there to see. I'd also like to go to honor Carolyn - she has done so much for all of us fans!

I'm very humbled that Carolyn would choose to spend her birthday with her Walton family. Humbled but not surprised. Last year the Reunion came at a turbulent time for me. This year, they'd have to tie me up in a sack to keep me away. I spoke with Tom Bower (Curt) and he said that he would like very much to come this year if possible. He's fantastic; I hope he can.

I totally agree with you about Carolyn. I would love for Michael Learned to be able to make it this year!!!! I really enjoyed Tom Bower too. He was very friendly to us all. I know I will be happy with whomever Carolyn is able to get...but I haven't met Michael. Of course, I haven't met Richard Thomas either, but I would not hold my breath on him...I just don't think he will ever attend one unless we all passed the hat around & came up with some serious mega bucks. But then again, that probably wouldn't make it happen either.

If it's about bucks for him, I think I'd just as soon he not come. I adore Richard but he's done so much in his life, I don't think he's as invested in The Waltons as some of us are.
Tom and the fellow that played Rev. Buchanan were my favorites I met in CA, I think.
I'm still wishing wishing wishing for Dennis Kort (The Genius) - if anyone could find him! I looked exhaustively to hook him up with Ray and/or Carolyn for California and couldn't find a trace.
I also think the actor that played the Jewish friend of Jason's in the Army and The Boy From the CCC would be cool.
So excited! Whoever comes, it will be fabulous!

It is certainly not about $$$ for Richard !!! He has other priorities, and has moved on.... He had his priorities in mind when he decided he would leave the show after five years -- he knew full well that it would be much more difficult to develop his career if he stayed any longer than that.... He is thankful that The Waltons gave him such a boost early on, but it wasn't "his life." It's a good memory for him but growing fainter with every passing year, every new project.
If Richard wanted more money, he would have stayed in CA instead of returning to NYC so he could do more live acting (once he had secured his family financially).... there is very little money in acting on-stage -- only actors who really want to ply their craft do it exclusively, or those who can't get anything in film or tv, and we know that is not Richard's problem....
I seem to remember that last year, Richard was in the middle of a new production.... he did make the bigger 40th reunion in NJ in 2012 because it wasn't even a day trip for him.... Maybe one year he'll be able to make a VA reunion if he isn't tied up. Hope so.

I know that with Richard it is not about the money. He did plan to attend Kami's event in 2012 before he got a part in a play and canceled. He also did the Entertainment Weekly Waltons photo shoot last year. I wrote "serious mega bucks" with tongue in cheek. I don't think he will ever come to a reunion just to attend it with only expenses paid though. I could be wrong and hope I am. I would really love for him to show up at one in the future. Maybe if it ever gets to the end of the road and it is absolutely, positively, definitely going to be the last reunion ever ...maybe then he would come.
Could it be that he doesn't want a lot of people (Waltons fans) calling him John-Boy the whole time during the reunion. He might also think that just about everything he will be asked to autograph would be of him being John-Boy?!?! I don't know, only he does. He's Richard Thomas and he played the character of John-Boy. We know the difference between the two. I hope he realizes that.

I believe Richard is in touch with Carolyn (I don't know how often or to what extent), so it's always a possibility that he would come. I think. Though I don't understand why he never has in however many years the Reunions have been going on. I know he's a busy guy, but in my experience you make time for what's important to you.
Richard has done tons of cool stuff in his career. I hope he doesn't feel "trapped" by the John-Boy role. I hope he realizes how important the show is and what it's meant to so many people, and that makes him very loved.

Right -- it's not important to him, understandably..... if convenient, he might come -- but, otherwise, many personal and business things take precedence....

Being new to the forum means being new on how to make arangements for the reunion. do we make reservations at the Kirkley hotel or will there be other accomodations available if these are booked up? also, does it matter if you are not a member of the fan club? I have tried to join but have been unsuccessful in linking up. Is there aan address I might be missing? "I have always depended on the kindness of strangers." Any suggestions?

I've never been totally clear on it, but I think that attending the Reunion makes you a member of the Fan Club (anyone? I'm not sure really). Carolyn should let us know when we can call the hotel for reservations. Make sure you tell them you're with The Waltons International Fan Club for the special rate. She will also let us know when the mailing will go out for the Reunion. Let her know you want her to be included and she'll send you the packet; just fill out your info and return it with payment. Then *poof!* next thing you know you'll be in Lynchburg with the rest of us Walnuts!

Maybe Sam from Bewitch has some ideas?

I would suggest, if possible, to make reservations now instead of waiting. I believe (in last year's case) that waiting until the paperwork is sent to you may mean that you'll had to look elsewhere for a hotel room. You can also choose to stay at a different hotel.
All hotels have a cancellation policy. If it turns out you won't be going, for whatever reason, you can always cancel your room or offer it to someone here who needs one for the event.
