In which episode did the kids bring Reckless up into the treehouse? Thanks for any help!

I'm thinking it's the episode about the Jewish family., the one where the boy had a Bar Mitzvah. What was the title of that episode?

I'm feeling like Livvy was looking up at it with a "visitor" -- either Sarah (Ep's eventual wife), or the woman who owned the dress shop....  Doubt if that helps.... |

I know what you are thinking of, Stella who owns the shop --> That is "The test" in season 4. Yeah, reckless is up in the treehouse, but reckless is by himself and Jim-Bob tries to bring him down. And they build some kind of contraption to bring him down. |

There wasn't one where they took Reckless up on purpose and John Walton jokingly chided them for it and they said that she likes it up here or it was her own idea? Also, was Reckless always a girl or did she have a sex change? Because I know she was a girl in her last episodes but previously I'd always had the impression she was a boy. |

Reckless was in the treehouse in both of those episodes. I do believe he/she had a sex change at some point. So maybe once reckless was in the treehouse as a girl, and another time as a boy.  |

In the Season 5 episode "The Vigil," John-Boy definitely referred to Reckless as "he." It was definitely supposed to be the same dog, not two different dogs with the same name, as in the last episode in which the dog appeared they said they'd had "her" for seven years!

Unless they went back and forth with it, the gender change seems to have occurred in Season 5. In "The Vigil," Reckless is "he," in "The Night Walker," Jason, wondering why Reckless didn't bark at the intruder, says, "She nearly barks her head off" at strangers.

In the Season 5 episode "The Vigil," John-Boy definitely referred to Reckless as "he." It was definitely supposed to be the same dog, not two different dogs with the same name, as in the last episode in which the dog appeared they said they'd had "her" for seven years! "The Journal"--"we've had her for seven years and don't know how old she was when we got her." My guess is the original male dog actor died and they replaced it with a female and hoped no one would notice the sudden change. |

Maybe it could be a case of "male as norm" - people often use "he" and "him" when talking about animals, even if they are female. I've known people to do it about their own pets, especially when they have non-gender specific names (like Reckless), so I guess we can just assume they always knew Reckless was a girl, but just accidentally referred to her as a boy lots of times. I always thought it was a shame how Reckless just kind of disappears once the children get older. She's always wandering around the house in the early days and making her distinctive bark whenever anyone comes near. You barely see her at all in Season 7 and then she dies in Season 8 and barely any of the family seem to care  |

I always thought it was a shame how Reckless just kind of disappears once the children get older. You barely see her at all in Season 7 and then she dies in Season 8 and barely any of the family seem to care They do not seem to care about any of the animals. Where is Blue? We can only assume that Chance is still in the barn being milked daily. Where is Rover? Where is Myrtle and Gingerbread? Other than Reckless, we have no idea what happened to the others. |

I just read The Black Stallion Returns, in which an unmistakably female horse (first and last reference) is referred to in the middle as "he." Possibly just a misprint but annoying. |
