I thought it would be cool to get some opinions on this topic. My personal pick is any episode directed by Harry Harris. There just seems to be an exceptional depth to every story line and every actor's performance in the episodes he directed. What do you all think?

I've always been interested in the technical side of the show, too. I would agree that the episodes directed by Ralph Waite were especially good, probably because he knew the cast so well and knew how to draw the best performance out of each one. Harry Harris was one of the few directors to be involved in the show from the first season all the way to the last season, plus two of the reunion movies. Also, remember Richard Thomas tried his hand at directing, too. He did "The Fox" , "The Great Motorcycle Race" and "John's Crossroad". I thought he did a great job with those episodes.

I thought the one with Jim Bob and Patsy specifically "The Motorcycle Race" kissing excessively was a little inconsistent with his character. I thought the one with the girl in the convent, "The Calling", is a better show of his personality. He doesn't kiss her as much and he truly cares for her as she does him. Very sad.
