Perhaps Ellen Corby was loved by the children because they were children. While still needing to be professionals on the set, Ellen could teach and educate them as actors from her experience.
However, I doubt all the children were involved in the adult discussions that took place around the set. It's like Thanksgiving at your grandparent's home - the kids all play outside, the women (often) wash the dishes and the men watch football. Not everyone knows what the other group says or does... and it doesn't mean that everyone needs to know all the details.
I would imagine Ellen was much like Esther Walton... or at least was able to channel the part so well (she did win three Emmys for it). But, like most people, we don't always *like* our coworkers, although we do accept them as-is. Perhaps that's why Ronnie Claire talked about Ellen's attitude... but it does not mean Ellen was not a valued member of the cast.

That sounds harsh what she wrote anyone know what she wrote about Michael??? (Sorry obsession again but i am in love with her) She said good things about Michael and all the other cast members. Everybody should order the book to find out what she had to say.

Amazon.com has a couple of them. ($22.00) There may be a more direct way than this to buy it from her, possibly with an autograph. I'll look into it, unless someone here already knows?

This quote:
"Her face, I suspect due to bad facelifts, was frozen into a sort of marionette line grimace"
is a little much. MEOW!!!!! Something that her character Cora Beth would say though.
Guess I should read the book at some point.

I'm afraid that quote says more about Edwards than it does about Corby. Perhaps the former was jealous? I know Corby was an accomplished scriptwriter as well as an actress, so I'm sure those talents only improved the show. Why are people so willing to believe actors are like their characters? I always noticed in pictures that she and Richard seemed to be laughing. That says something to me. Corby's face showed the natural aging process so I'd be really surprised if she had any facelifts.
I won't be ordering her book.

I was thinking the same thing about Ronnie Claire.... it appears she had some serious "issues" with Ellen and didn't have enough self-cotrol to avoid saying it in print! -- a huge MEOW After seeing Ronnie Claire on that "home show" several months ago, I pretty much decided I wasn't interested in reading any of her books -- maybe if I didn't have to pay for them! She's quite an interesting person but I've come to appreciate her only for the Corabeth role, not for herself.... I'm ashamed to say. It bothers me quite a bit because I really wanted (and expected) to like her.... I sincerely hope we don't ever hear of negative remarks about any of the other actors.

Ronnie loved Michael Learned, according to her book. You all need to buy it. Not all about the Waltons, yet I loved it and she has led a fascinating life. I just wanted to know more about Ellen and her. So, who is going to share details from the reunion?

I imagine we won't hear many details about the recent reunion -- it understandably wasn't as big a deal as last year's 40th.... only 4 cast members, with David Harper the only "regular" -- and only 7 of our members (not counting Carolyn, Brenda, and Big Bruno)... with so much going on last year, many took a break, I guess.... and that's okay -- need to gather strength for next year!!

When you have two very strong personalities, such as Ronnie and Ellen's, there will be clashes here and there. I'm not going to let that take away from what they were able to create on screen. They both did a wonderful job with their characters. Maybe the reason they were each cast in their roles was because they were so close to those character's personalities.
I could have gone without knowing Ronnie's feelings towards Ellen, but that was her opinion and her decision to put it in the book. That's the problem with the printed word... it can't be taken back.

I plan on posting a recap from this year's reunion plus my photos. I just need to catch up as I am still behind from being gone that weekend. My five year old son just got over strep throat when I left for the reunion. When I got back I had three prior commitments of volunteering in my sons classrooms, making goody bags at home for my kids classmates for Halloween, my 17 year old daughter has probably tore her ACL in her knee - we are scheduling an MRI for that right now & if it is she will probably have surgery at the end of this week or next plus four of my kids have a stomach virus - been busy changing & washing bedsheets & clothes because of that. I hope everyone will be well so they can go trick-or-treating as they have been counting down the days since October 1st. I guess it's better to be busy than bored!!!! Maybe this weekend I can get the photos up & do a recap. Please just bear with me.
