I'm going to stay home and watch the ball fall like I do every year. I hate going out on New Years because of all the crazy drivers.

I have no plans at all. I'll probably just stay at home and watch tv with my husband.

We do the same, go out for an early dinner and then stay in. But we're leaving Friday to go to my niece's wedding in Chicago. Brrrrr!

I'm taking two of my daughters on New Year's Eve to see the movie "Twilight" but I'm going to see "Yes Man." Then I'm meeting my best friend to exchange late christmas presents & eat out supper together to celebrate her birthday early (it's Jan. 5th). Then back home to my hubby & 7 kids (I have 8 but our oldest daughter is out of the house, she's a Marine, already been to Iraq & back). It's church night & afterwards we let the kids stay up late to bring in the new year. We are planning on shooting off some fireworks at midnight. Then on New's day I am planning on doing as little as possible. Believe me with all of my kids this is the only day out of the whole year that I act "lazy." I am into old wive's tales.....so I don't do any of the following on New Year's day.....wash clothes (you'll wash your luck away), sweep (you will sweep someone out of your family during the new year "they'll die"), I'm red-headed so I make sure that I am not the first "visitor" across someone's threshold....if your 1st visitor is red-headed it is suppose to bring you bad luck! I make sure I do my laundry the day before, cook the day's meals before hand so all I have to do is heat them up, etc....because whatever you do on New Year's is what you are suppose to spend most of the year doing!! Go ahead & laugh at me if you want to (my hubby thinks it's all hogwash) but I got all of these "traditions" from my maternal grandmother. I will tell you one old wive's tale that I know for an absolutely fact that it works.....if you have trouble keeping your dog/dogs at home, take some of their hair & put it under your house's steps (under your doormat if you can't get under your steps) & the dog/dogs will stay home! Don't believe me? Try it!!!!! Anyway, Happy New Year 2009 to everyone!!!

I forgot to say that we always eat black-eyed peas & hog jowl at my folks house on new year's day. It's a southern tradition!! I just make sure that my hubby or one or more of my kids cross the threshold before I do! LOL!!

We will be eating those foods as well. We also shoot over the garden two times on New Year's Day. I can't remember the reason. It's supposed to protect the harvest or something like that.
We'll be in with about 25 friends and family members coming over to celebrate. I had better start cooking!

Wow -- I love to hear Old Wives Tales and I think they are all new to me! Interesting!!!!!
Here in Lancaster County, PA it is traditional to have Pork and Sauerkraut on New Years Day. I make it evry year. It is supposed to bring good luck throughout the New Year. However, 2008 was not a very good year so I wonder if maybe I should have Pizza!!
