Plenty of male characters to hate on but personally I found some of the younger characters irritating....
1) the blonde girl who gets Ben into real trouble in 'The Lie' when she gets him to steal John Boys new car so he can drive her to see her mother in Charlottesville in the middle of the night and the car gets stolen and crashed. Ben pleads with her to be allowed to tell his father so he does not get arrested but all she does is give him the whiney face and is only bothered about herself getting into trouble from her father. She annoyed me for that so I never like her when I see that episode.
2) Young cousin Jeffrey in the later series...brat of a kid.
3) Martha Rose Coverdale....
4) Elizabeth...
5) Stanley Perkins...a real wet blanket of a man.
6) Bob, young Olivia's fiancée in the Shivaree. Party pooper...
7) Vera, Wades wife in The Conflict. She comes over as backward to me.
8) Oh and that really annoying college girl who steals John Boy's assignment from his car and she makes a general pain in the a*se of herself right through the episode. I'd have run her over!
9) The blacksmith, Curtis's movie-obsessed wife, in both the episodes she appears in. Just a plain silly woman in my opinion.

Corine Walton was the one I never could stomach. My God she was the most opinionated, stiff spined character on the Waltons. There many, the dust bowl cousins, would be my second. Comparing Grandma to Corine, Grandma was a rose even with her stiff necked, unforgiving ways. Yep, Corine ... hands down.

Who was Corrine Walton? There was Cory from the Dust Bowl Cousins. She was married to Ham. Couldn't stand him. And then Cora Beth Godsey, who's a Walton. I always loved Cora Beth. She was very gossipy and opinionated but I adored her. I loved Ronnie Claire Edwards, I thought she was a great actress. One of my favorite episodes is The Pearls. She played Cora Beth's sister. Love that episode. I love the way she called Ike "Brother Ike". I just watched the Rumor and Buck Vernon is horrible. But I have to say Elizabeth was awful in that episode. Just awful. And she was never made responsible for her actions. That's nothing new. The Search. She was awful. And the episode when Olivia is the teacher and elizabeth sits with her and never leaves her side. She was unbelievably spoiled. Anyway I think Buck Vernon is the worst character ever.

The chaps are getting a bit of a pasting here, so I shall plump for po-faced Miss Prissom from The Sinner

I believe Joyce was talking about Martha Corinne, Zeb's sister-in-law. She got removed from her home by the government so they could build a road and later moved in with the Waltons because she didn't want to die alone.

I liked Elizabeth as a character most of the time, but you’re right, she was spoiled and usually was not held responsible for her actions. Another episode was The Children’s Carol. Elizabeth was downright cruel to the British children who were already traumatized, and she wasn’t punished for it. Yes, Buck Vernon was an unlikeable character. Wasn’t he the one who gathered up the books for the book-burning, and it turned out one of the books was a German Bible?

I just read through this entire thread again and realized there were many unlikeable characters on The Waltons. Amazing that a show that was considered too “sugary-sweet” was filled with characters who were bigoted racists, spouse abusers, rapists, spoiled brats, gossipers, liars, cheaters, bullies, airheads, and just all-around annoying people.

Disliking the pretty girls. But I know what you mean awesome their characters could be fickle and shallow. Isn't it interesting on the soap operas we guys especially love to watch the bad girls like Kristen and Nicole on Days of our Lives. And the women love to hate them, but they recognize their outward beauty and they make for great stories and dramas soap operas that is lol. I like both Erin and Marcia. Fickle girls don't bother me. I can think of one pretty girl that I didn't like, though. Sis Bradford! She's the girl in the episode The Beguiled who was spoiled and rude. She hit John Boy's car and ruined his tire, or something like that. She also took John Boy's notebook that he needed for a class and hid it in a little boy's bookbag, letting him take the blame. (Danny, played by Willie Ames of Eight is Enough) If we can count people who appeared in newsreels, I can think of one that everyone can agree with. Adolph Hitler. At least I think he was in a newsreel or two on The Waltons. Darleen Carr who played Sis Bradford is the real life sister of Charmian Carr who played Liesl in The Sound Of Music. Nicholas Hammond and Kym Karath both appeared on The Waltons at different times. So Darleen is a third (sort of) Waltons/ Sound Of Music connection

Buck Vernon was pretty unlikable, but number one in my book was Corabeth. She was unhappy, and the only thing that seemed to make her happy was making other people try to live up to her unreasonable standards.
I especially felt sorry for Amie, who was such a delightful little girl. But her efforts to please her mother made her miserable.

I know she has mentioned she was required to act too babyish for her years. She didn't like that.

I agree about Janet. I guess to all of us here, we would be so grateful and happy to even go visit the Walton home, and even happier and excited to be part of the family, and Janet seems bored and uninterested in the house and family. That's because she doesn't want the country life. She enjoys the city. Personally I don't care either way about her.
