Just some thoughts for the holiday season,
As many of you know Eric Scott has been collecting money for the Leukemia and Cancer Foundations and forwarding it for me. I spoke with Eric yesterday and say's he would be happy to continue to forward money to the society that is sent to him. I know that for many hard times don’t make this possible. But for those who can, the children dealing with cancer would greatly appreciate it. Finding a cure for cancer is an expensive process.
Furthermore, for most children their families are paying hospital bills and can not afford holiday cheer for their sick child. There are places in your area that you could donate a children’s toy. Every year I speak with Toy’s R Us and they give me a great deal on a dozen stuffed animals that I bring into the hospital. Various stores have closeout items that they have sitting in the back room. I go in and ask and they are willing to donate these to the hospital. Stores are just waiting for someone to come in and ask for close out toys and such.
A little over a month ago Shiloh, a reading buddy of mine, had lost her battle with Leukemia. I ask that my friends here on the forum keep her family in their prayers. This will be a hard time for Shiloh’s family.
Most children’s hospitals have reading or big buddy programs and are in dire need of volunteers. Myself, I have been working with cancer stricken children over the last three years since I was first diagnosed with Leukemia. Trust me, you come out with much more than you put into it. I’ll be seeing my other reading buddy today at the hospital and plan to eat 'turkey' with him. Jason is nine years old and has just finished his first phase of chemotherapy. I was able to meet Jason for the first time yesterday and he is such a great kid! If you would like to hear more about the volunteer program you can email me at Diannecreative@MSN.com.
In closing, I would like to thank all of you for your thoughts and prayers for my swift recovery over the course of my battle. Things are looking really good and I am feeling great; and looking forward to the holidays.
Perhaps you know someone who is alone today ... I'm sure they would love to hear from you!
You are all in my prayers. God Bless!
Dianne

Don't feel bad about this. I've already sent my contributions to Eric two months ago. I'm sure everyone doesn't know about me but Dianne does. I'm a platelet donor myself and love to help out for any patients from kids to adults that are undergoing a bone marrow transplant, surgery, chemotherapy, radiation treatment or organ transplant need platelets in order to survive which I really cared about them. I've been donating my platelets every single month which the procedures takes approximately 1 1/2 to 2 hours and I loved it. I've been volunteer for American Red Cross since 1992. I'm so proud of Dianne because she's very involved with young kids who has cancer. She really lifted their spirit.
Please pull out your check book and send your financial contributions to Children's Cancer Society see above in Dianne's message.
This would appreciate it for Dianne and Eric..
Tracey

Greetings, Hi Dianne, glad you are doing better. I have been hit hard with the downturn in the stock market and the economy. For the first time in 29 years, I'm actually bringing my lunch to work and doing other things to save. That being said, there are a few things I will not stop. I've been a proud "Partner-in-Hope" and a volunteer to raise money for St Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis, TN for many years and that will continue. I will also continue to support a good cause.....a check will be mailed to Eric Scott Monday morning. Please take care of yourself and all those kids. See ya soon, Bruce (AKA Big Bruno)

Hi there Dianne,
I think it is a good thing you and Eric are doing. My wife donates to a lot of things but money is a little tight right now. Maybe after the first of the year I can donate. Eric seems to be a nice person. Give him a thumbs up for what he is doing and a hello from me when you get a chance. David

Hey Ryan ... cool ... but unfortunately it needs to be check or money order made out to the Children's Cancer Society. Perhaps there is a children's hospital that you can go to a make a donation in person. I'm sure there are a lot of kids that would love to have a 'Chemo Pal'. Are you a senior in high - school or first year in college? It would make for a great senior or college project! Sharing of yourself gives you great benefits, as well (Spiritual if anything!) Thanks for the kids sake Ryan! Dianne

I have an idea, David. You said winter makes you a little depressed. A lot of times children's hospitals will sponsor a 'Big Brother' program. If you call them they will give you a list of children who may not need finacial support ... but moral support. It will keep you busy and out of trouble Eric is the BEST! As far as a thumbs up ... Eric reads the forum even when we don't think he does. We have eyes watching us all the time Dianne

Dianne,
Nortons Childrens Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky is suppose to be one of the best in the nation. It is only about 70 miles from me so I might concider doing what you suggest. The only thing is, I don't deal with sick or dead kids very well. To make a long story short, my nephew was in a wreck when he was sixteen and one of the boys in the pickup truck that struck a tree was killed. I could'nt
even bring myself to go to the visitation. He was only 11 years old and I knew him well.

You would be amazed at how far they have come. But, we still have a ways to go. I'm sure you could really make a difference to a child ... read a book ... tell a joke ... watch the game. Dianne

My husband passed away from stomach cancer two and a half years ago. Every time a special occasion comes around (his birthday, our anniversary, Fathers Day etc) I send whatever money I would've spent on him to the Tom Baker Cancer Centre. It keeps Allan a part of our celebrations and helps the Centre that we care so much about.
Christmas goes out on Friday!
