I enjoyed reading your poem!!
I would like to take time to say THANK YOU to all our Vets, on this Forum, and throughout the Country. My father was in WWII and was at Normandy on D-Day. My appreciation came late in life and regret that I did not spend more time learning the details first hand from him. I have a few pictures of his army days that I cherish. I also had a Great Great Great (not sure how many Greats apply) Grandfather that served as a Union Soldier in the Civil War.
THANKS to all !!!!!! LoriJean

I want to take this opportunity to honor our vets and those currently serving as well. All of them are heroes. . My father was also a WW2 vet who served under General Patton. My uncle died in WW2 in the Battle of the Bulge.
By the way, lorijean, my great grandfather was a Confederate soldier in the Civil War. He was captured by Union forces and served time in prison in Cincinnati. He took an oath of allegiance to the Union in order to be released from prison, so I guess you could say he was for the Confederacy when he went in and for the Union when he came out.

That's a neat story about your Confederate Grandfather. I am fascinated by Civil War history!!!

LoriJean I understand your regrets regarding your father. I had an uncle who served in the trenches in France during World War I. I've always lamented that I never sat down with him and discussed these experiences when opportunities arose. Thank you for your father's service to our country as well as that of your GGG Grandfather (even if he was on the wrong side)!
