I've brought this subject up before or someone has I think. But Zeb Walton lived from 1865-1941, basically from the end of the Civil War to shortly before Pearl Harbor. We've seen the last 7-8 years of his life on the Waltons in the Depression. I got this idea after watching the Empty Nest yesterday. But how about a three part series starting with his young years, meeting and marrying Esther and then they build the house and John and Ben are born and go off to war. In the second part of the series John and Ben are at war in World War 1 and Ben dies.John comes home, meets Olivia and starts his family with John Boy. And finally in the third part of the series we see the Walton kids growing up until about when John Boy is 15 and the Homecoming and the Waltons start the series. It would be interesting if they could find new and different talented actors to play these parts and maybe a few cameos from the old Waltons characters. I remember Dallas tried this once with mixed results but the Waltons are a true story and so loved by many generations. It may or may not happen , but it's just a thought. Please let me know what you think as always. And this is my first post on the new and improved Waltons Forum. Enjoy and talk soon. WmFan Sportwriter

This has been brought up before, but with grandma as the focus. Grandma is approx the same age as Laura Ingalls so when you watch LHOP, you are watching an era similar to grandma.

That would be so cool if they did something like that...I'd love to see the story of Zeb & Esther in their younger years and learn more about John's brother Ben. I'm guessing we'll never see it unfortunately....except in our imaginations

I would love to see this. What people can you imagine playing the parts? I would have to do some thinking before I could come up with any. On another message board I belonged to that dealt with the books of L.M. Montgomery (the board was called Tangled Web and it no longer exists), they had a thread like that. I said that I thought Anne Hathaway (Princess Diaries)when she was younger would make a good Rilla (Anne's youngest daughter). But nobody agreed or disagreed with me.
For Esther, someone petite and feisty. For Zeb, someone tall and lanky.

the only way a network would make this movie is with kim kardashian as grandma and charlie sheen as grandpa. they don't care about good tv just about how much money they can make.

Scarlett, Laura Inagalls Wilder passed away in 1957.. Her life was VERY different than a WALTON show. I consider myself an amateur Laura historian, having read all books, travelled to SD, and the Mansfield home, including reading Rose's literature.

We stayed at a bed & breakfast just about a mile from it. Since it was off season (October) we had the whole house to ourselves. The caretakers stayed in a RV/camper at the end of the property. We also went to the cemetery where Laura, Almanzo & Rose are buried. I really enjoyed the trip with the beautiful turning leaves of Autumn. The only drawback was that you could only take pictures on the outside. They would not let you take any pictures inside of the museum or home because they said that all the flashes over time would deteriorate the belongings. As you know, Almanzo had even made the kitchen cabinets/countertops shorter than usual because Laura was so short.

But wouldn't grandma Walton flip if she knew her parents got free land from the government like so many pioneers of that era did?. Like a government handout she would say..

Laura Ingalls Wilder was born in 1867, so Scarlett is right. She and Grandma did grow up during the same era, although they were in different parts of the country.
The difference is, the Walton family stayed in that one area of Appalachia, while the Ingalls family moved around a lot. Laura was born in Wisconsin, the family moved to Kansas, they returned to Wisconsin, they moved to Walnut Grove, MN, they moved to Burr Oak, Iowa, then back to Walnut Grove, and finally to De Smet, Dakota Territory. They did all of this by the time Laura was 12 years old. Then Almanzo, Laura, and Rose left DeSmet, moved to Mansfield, MO, and Laura and Almanzo stayed there the rest of their lives.
So I'm sure life for a frontier girl like Laura was much different than it was for an Appalachian girl like Esther Walton, but they did grow up at the same time.

I have been to all the homesites: Pepin, Walnut Grove, De Smet, Burr Oak, Kansas, Mansfield, and even Malone, NY, where Almanzo grew up. I always learn something new and see something I didn't notice before, each time I take one of those trips. Here is a pic of my granddaughter at the Ingalls homestead in DeSmet.

Scarlett you area correct on the tip frames so apologize for not understanding your comment the first time. Forverwalton, YES! I went to Mansfield once as a child in the late 80's and then again back in 2005. Almanzo really sized that house for Laura's height. Everything was SO TINY. My parents thought visiting the Mansfield home was the highlight of our vacation.
