Miss Mamie and Miss Emily are officially up for adoption if anyone wants to adopt them (or just one of 'em) for their keeper!! I loved having them as keepers!

I'd like to be keeper of Mary Ellen, since my name happens to be Mary Ellen! lol! I'd need someone to make a banner though, if you don't mind. My PC won't allow it. Thanks!

All new members must wait two weeks before they become a keeper of anything. At that point, I'd be happy to make a banner for your keeper! The two weeks will go by fast! In the meantime, have fun posting and joining in on discussions!

Just kidding, just being silly.

Guess I've never understood the two-week rule..... so, someone can join the forum and post once, and two weeks later be permitted to have a keeper? Seems to me there should be more required, somehow....

I have to agree with you, JeriJet. I'm thinking they should reach a required amount of posts and be an online member for a few weeks.... they need to be an active member and interact through posting. Authentic posts of course, no spamming.

(i.e., ya just can't be a member for 4 years, post 17 times during that period, disappear for two years, and come back, post once, and then want to own a keeper).... I don't really have a good fix on this.... maybe it doesn't matter.... just seems to me that there should be some "points" to be earned somehow....

Seems to me there should be more required, somehow.... The rule says: Members should post an introductory post and visit the forum regularly for a period of 2 weeks before asking to become a keeper.
So yes, I guess a person could post once and two weeks later have a keeper, but they must visit the forum regularly during that 2 week period.
The nice thing about rules is, they can be changed. So if anyone has a better idea for a keeper rule, please post it here.

It's good to have rules regarding the keepers, but keep in mind - out of 1275 members on the forum, only 49 have keepers. (adding the two I made this morning, that makes 51). Most of those participate on the forum.
Requesting a keeper is a good sign of someone who wants to be here. Not out of a sense of posting rules, but out of a genuine connection to the show and those who love it. Do we really want to make it a challenge for those who want to belong and be part of this? Just a thought.

Many of the regulars don't post 15 or 20 messages in a two week period. Sometimes people are shy about posting a lot when they first join a forum. They might just be reading through posts, trying to find out what has been discussed here before, rather than posting their own messages. If someone joins, requests a keeper image, then doesn't show up again, I can always remove that keeper image from their signature.
Anyone else have thoughts or suggestions on this?

Both Nicolle and Brenda make very good points here. And I agree with them. Thanks for the stats, Nicolle. Maybe most people weren't aware (I sure wasn't) that there are 1275 members and only around 50 keepers. That's only 4% of the members. (Albeit not all the members post regularly) It's not like we are running out of keepers for new members and someone has to select a left sock Grandpa wore in the first half of episode 3, Season 2, or one of the pieces of chalk in Miss Hunter's classroom, or jar #3512 of the recipe, shown for 3 seconds in episode 6, season 4. And you are right Brenda, often new members are too shy to post at first. I also think that might involve lots of work for you Brenda to remove keepers if they don't post. Not worth your time to keep track of it, I think. Maybe a Status Quo is the best thing right now.
