This morning, December 3, 2012 around 5:00 AM, Mr. John Olvey left this world to be in the glorious presence of his Lord forever. On several occasions John had mentioned to me about all his loved ones already in Heaven. John fought a courageous battle with cancer to the very end, I talked with his sister today and she said she would call me when the funeral arrangements are complete. Please keep this family in your prayers. John had been part of our WALTON FAMILY since October of 1992. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

John was part of the Waltons Digest family since it started in 1997. We had contact through email many times. He was always able to answer any of those little questions that cropped up.
I am truly sorry to hear this news. He will be missed by many.
Prayers are with his family.

John Olvey provided me with the booklet on The Waltons about 12 years ago. He also provided me with the script for the episode The System.

He will be missed; My best wished to his family. I still use my copy of "25 years with the Waltons", which he wrote, and I still treasure the personalized Christmas cards that he sent every year (the front was always a painting from the show, which he did himself)

I don't know him either wmfan but I send my prayers and condolences to his family. Not that there is ever a good time to lose a loved one but I think this is probably one of the worst times of the year to go though a loss.

Oh, Carolyn, I'm so sorry to hear this. I met John several years ago in Schuyler at one of the reunions. The last time I saw him was in 2007 at the California reunion. I also have several of those Christmas cards with his beautiful artwork that he sent each year. I will treasure them always Here is a picture I took of him and Audrey Hamner (Earl's sister) in California in 2007: RIP John.

God bless him. How wonderful that the obituary mentioned his love of The Waltons.

I had never heard of Mr. Olvey until now. I went to read his obituary & found out that he lived in Guntersville, Alabama. I live just 30 minutes from Guntersville. I wish I had known about him while he was still alive, I would have loved to have visited with him. My prayers go out to his family, may you RIP.

Brenda thanks for posting both the photo of John and his obituary. I also have a Waltons trivia book he authored. He amassed a great collection of Waltons memorabilia over the years. He was a lovely man and I finally met him in 2007 too after knowing him through email for so long.
