Jeri, you're lucky indeed to have those genes! I agree that there are no fake Hollywood types on the Mountain - they're just normal folks. And the more we grow to love them, the more beautiful they are to us.
flyaway, I wouldn't say anyone "let themselves go". Some people (myself included!) have to work really really really hard - exercise HARD at least four times a week and eat nothing but grass, as Jeri says - or they get fluffy. It's very very hard to keep up that lifestyle. I did it for years and you just burn out. It's dreadful, really.

I know personally also what a major struggle it is. I almost died last year and thats when I lost around 50 pounds........ It is for sure a hereditary thing I believe. The main reason I started this thread is after becoming friends on FB with Ronnie Claire I was most shocked at what a beautiful lady she still is. I just took for granted on the show I guess how attractive she was.

For a tv show, the cast was pretty average.
I doubt they would be cast in todays tv shows.

Erin, Erin, and... Erin! Seriously, I'd say Erin, Cindy, and Martha Rose Coverdale.

There were certainly no raving beauties, nor matinee idols in the main cast.... which is just how it should be -- in a show about a large family during the 1930's in the Blue Ridge Mountains ... I believe they specifically wanted "normal" looks, especially with no one standing out to much extent.... And, I think these ideas would be followed today, too.... it just makes sense.

Well, if we can include some guest stars in this competition, then I would say that Linda Purl (sp?) and the girl who played the wing walker are definitely cutie pies.
With regard to the main cast, I always thought that Michael Learned was a beauty. Cora Beth was sneaky sexy and pretty. Marcia Woolery was kind of cute.
Erin was attractive, but she had no lips and always looked like she just ate a lemon.
Mary Ellen grew up to be an attractive adult.
As for my number one, it's Grandma Walton. What a temptress!
