Hi everyone. I have'nt posted anything on the forum for a while so I just thought I would make a comment or two. After reading some of the post on the forum, I have found out a lot of interesting information. I don't care what anybody says, The Waltons is the best show ever made. There will never be another show made that will top The Waltons. I also wanted to let everybody know what a kind and sweet person Mary McDonough is. I can't wait to meet her at the reunion. Still wish we could bring David Harper out of the wood work but if he prefers to remain so private, I respect his privacy. Hope to meet some of you folks at the reunion. David McGill

I agree. The Waltons is a very unique show. The cast and crew, the writers and directors, the music and the set, all come together to remind us that our families and our love for them can get us through a lot and that learning something new happens at any age.
I cannot recall another program in a drama setting that moves me the way that The Waltons does. I not only watch the show to be entertained, but also to be enlightened in some way or other that I had not considered before.
Two other shows that I have watched that have had a simular effect are, and do not laugh, Frasier and Star Trek:The Next Generation.
I know that Frasier is a comedy, but they had quite a few episodes where the story made you look at yourself with something other than a mirror. It made me see that no matter what social class you consider yourself in, we all are people with feelings of hope and despair, and that it is important to realize and see what is really important in our lives.
When I first watched ST:TNG it was for the cool special effects, but I soon found myself immersed in the stories themselves. With most of the episodes I seemed to discover a meaning behind the story. Some sort of philosophical look at a situation, by seeing it from another perspective, to see clearly, something that I had merely assumed or suspected to be true.
Now I know that a lot of people who are drawn to a show like The Waltons would not even think about watching ST:TNG. But if your curious, look for the ST:TNG episode called "The Inner Light". You will not be disappointed.
I know it looks like I am making a plug for two other shows in a Waltons forum, but I guess I just wanted to express that I really get a lot from watching The Waltons. Since they are not on 24/7, two really good alternatives are Frasier and ST:TNG, if your looking for something other than to just being entertained.

To michaelski, I have a problem with depression sometimes and watching The Waltons always helps. I'll have to check out the shows you mentioned.
