I've always been curious as to why Ms. Michael Learned and Ralph Waite left the show as well as others also... and if their reasons were to become "more known" did it happen?

Cause they got sick and tired of the show, grass got greener on the other side and the got too big for their britches. and they just wanted too.
Ruined a great show and did not do that much for their careers.

Like Michael said, they ran out of ideas for scripts, so no doubt it got boring and they wanted to move on. Nothing wrong with that. You really think they could have kept the Waltons show on forever? That's not realistic. I thought the last two seasons were the poorest.

someone on here mentioned that ralph was on days of our lives. and i read in mary's book that she was in the show "the new adventures of the old christine" (i think i got that right? )i never saw any of the cast in any movie or show after the waltons. can any of you tell me what movies/shows they have been in? the show was always good, but after johnboy left, it started being not so good. when michael left it was on its last leg, then john sr left. it was/is so sad. but, i know they did what they needed and wanted to do. if all the cast members had stayed, i would still to this day watch that show! lol i wish they would have another reunion movie. i guess that will never happen?

Yeah, amylee, Ralph Waite was on Days of Our Lives for a while last year. ( That's another show I have watched all of my life) It was pretty cool to see him on there. He played a priest, Father Matt.

I've heard many actors say that five years is about the limit for doing good work on a tv show. My 'uneducated' guess is that the first few years are about the excitement of acting, the next few about banking money and then the last ones sheer tedium. I expect it's similar with any job but most of us don't have the creative gene to motivate us to leave.

The Waltons show began timely for the generations that would be the viewers and sadly ended timely ... almost not soon enough as was said the last episodes were not true Walton nature. But we loved them then and love them now ....

I have heard that the reason GW(David Doremus)was killed was that he was getting married to someone who was not in the entertainment industry and would not be making any more television appreances, Does anyone know if this is true? IMDB.com does not list him as having made any TV appearances after The First Casulty so this sounds plausible(?) Does any one know what he is doing now and does he have any children?

One reason actors leave a show is that they do not want to be typecast as a certian type of actor, which limits they ability to find jobs in the business.

Michael Learned starred in a very short lived tv show (when she left the Waltons) "Nurse" with Robert Reed. I hear she also appeared a few times as a nurse on Scrubs. Ralph Waite played the father of a detective in one of the CSI shows. Mary McDonough had a role on The New Adventures of Old Christine.

Read this, it talks some about why she left the show: www.people.com/people/archive/article/0,,20072823,00.html If you enlarge the front page on the right side, you can view the magazine. It has WONDERFUL pictures!!! Richard Thomas also left the show, I am not sure why though -- I'll have to do some research... Who else left the series??
