Hello everyone. I am trying to remember which episode, Earl Hamner speaks at the end about "the ball fields are quiet now, only the ghosts of the children play there." or something like that. Thank you for the help in remember the episode. Take Care.

Hello everyone. I am trying to remember which episode, Earl Hamner speaks at the end about "the ball fields are quiet now, only the ghosts of the children play there." or something like that. Thank you for the help in remember the episode. Take Care. From Season 2 "The Braggert" "It's late now in Virginia, that ball field which once echoed to the sounds of our games is quiet except for the call of crickets and the ghosts of the children we were. For my brothers and sisters and I are all grown now, and our children play other games in places far from Walton’s Mountain. Still, there's something about the fall of night that turns our thoughts homeward".

Thank you so much.....my neighbor had her graduation party the other day. And we live across the field (about 1/4 mile from her). It was about 10pm, and the sounds of the voices traveling across the cow pasture, pushed by a gentle breeze reminded me of that narration. (we only have about five neighbors, big time country). The kids will soon go onto college, and then eventually create families of their own. But, those voices and the memories will forever be a part of the hill we live on.

To robert:
That was a wonderful expression of sentiment! And what Earl Hamner said in that postscript is true. Something about the fall of night does rekindle memories of my growing up years in rural northeastern North Carolina. It's especially true during summer time.
